That stuffs not quite real-real. But often calculated based on data plots. Eliptical orbit (which is why our side of the world had red stripes) where it gets higher/lower and ground speed changes.

More or less have to wait for it to not appear where it should be on next dark land pass

Yes, it was burning up over Oman in daytime, on the lap where it went past us not long ago) not that app says its gaining altitude. So, it appears to be down between Middle East and Australia, unsure how long the burn takes before its down to smaller pieces

Sigh...was quietly hoping to be hit and poof, go out in a blaze of fireworks...included in the Guinness book of records and splashed over every world newspaper and TV. It was not to be.

How do you *know* it went round? It could have gone overhead from edge to edge in an arc, then gone round the edge back to its starting point. All you need is to instantaneously change the direction of the 22T rocket travelling at 18,000kph by 90 degrees, twice per "orbit". Probably 5G would do it.

you can know if you had people filming it going around but that's unlikely

we only have tracking no video

they probably have explanations of why the tracking is wrong

Yep, 5G nails it!

On a serious note though, it's disturbing.  The variance in the atmosphere, the banking which I assume is that its rotating, means that the trajectory is hugely volatile. IIRC the last time they did this, it landed in Africa and damaged buildings.
