Unless you were right there, it is hard to know how this really played out. Maybe he was an ass, but there are also reported witness accounts from passengers that he was not being aggressive at all whereas the airline claims he was.

Flight crew asked him to move back to allocated seat!

Only answer should be to crew is ' yes I am moving now ' sorry

Linux: Only 1 person to blame here

1) They failed to take allocated seat
2) They failed to follow crew instructions

They got the zap for more than one reason

3) Failed to move when the AFP turned up, who said "if you don't come with us we will remove you"....

People seem to forget that Planes are not public spaces, you aren't free to disagree with a legal request from airline staff.

Planes are highly regulated private property and the staff can tell you to do pretty much what thy want....

and if the plane is on the ground the police have pretty wide powers under aviation security rules.....

I'm not disputing any of that. I'm just pointing out that if the police had done courses in how to get your way nicely then a pregnant woman who had nothing to do with the argument would not have ended up in a panic under a body pile. Police are supposed to make things better, not worse.

This is the problem these days everyone expects the police to be PC

The plane has a departure time I am pleased to see the police did not muck around

The police did make things better they removed an idiot from the plane and made it better for everyone onboard except the idiot.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

I'm sure you would be pleased if the uncooperative passenger was an autistic teenager who panics when spoken to by strangers and the police shot him. That would have taught him a lesson!

That's pretty judgemental coming from you Mike. How do you know he was an idiot?

No it's not. But no-one could know that. People do things for a reason. Maybe not always a good one, but a reason nonetheless. As far as I can tell from the media reports, the police shouted do this or else and then they zapped him. Violence, especially police violence, should be the last resort, not the first one. Those who applaud it better just hope they are not in the firing line if guns ever do come out. They ought to try learning something from the terrible American examples.

Definition of an idiot = "a stupid person"

He was an idiot because to ignored civil aviation requirements

He was an idiot for ignoring requests of the cabin crew

He was an idiot for escalating and easily resolved issue to the point where police we required to intervene

He was an idiot for not waiting until the plane was airborne and seat belt sign off and being able to swap seats ( still needing to return to assigned seat for landing) without fuss

He was an idiot for putting his family, other passengers and crew through his self centred nonsense

He was an idiot for believing that police will negotiate in these circumstances

The 30 seconds or so of video don’t help.

But it was more this like from a pax on board:

1) Cabin crew requested individual to return to his allocated seat, to which the reply was “no way”

2) Cabin crew manager requested individual to return to his allocated seat, the reply was “no F***ing way, I will be sitting here and there is nothing you can do about it”

3) Pilot got involved and informed the individual that they have two choices, sit in the seat allocated or get off. The response was “F*** off”

4) Pilot did what he was required to do under the law to maintain discipline on board and got the AFP to remove the individual from the aircraft.

5) AFP turned up and told individual to either take his allocated seat or be removed from the aircraft. The response again was “F*** off”

6) AFP removed the individual from the aircraft in the manner they saw fit.

Simple thing is as a passenger, or just dealing with anyone in life is don’t be a dick. If they ask you do something, be reasonable. As soon as you stop being reasonable then don’t expect to be treated any better than what you’ve just done.

I am surprised at the amount of anger in this thread. Maybe people are just pissed at the cost of living. Anyway, it is starting to go in circles so I am out. Try a smile instead of a threat next time someone doesn't do something you want them to.

You are making it go in circles you are trying to twist it and bring something into it that did not happen!

The passenger got zapped I hope this knocked some sense into him
