Looks like the Air NZ Dreamliner is heading to the Farnborough Airshow next week so it may be a few weeks before we see it down here..

May well be coming here first.

Initial reports were Monday, (clearly I listened to the wrong people and was later corrected by someone I trust more) but looks like further testing and has stretch that to possibly Thursday this week. So far its done a few ferry tests between Seattle and Kansas but as pointed out needs another etops test done. So soon as we see it leave the US west coast, you got 11hrs or so to sort your cameras :) (fanfare arrival is expected)

Yeah OK distance v time fail.

It's just logged another 4hr run.

Rumored to be crew training. Getting close!! (I suspect the chief ANZ pilot will be bringing it home with the Southern Cross Aviation Delivery team after being the face of the project for some weeks)

I'm still gonna give it 6-12 months before I jump on board :)

originally these were intended for the AKL/Hawaii Route, anyone know what the new plan is ? Are they gonna put the 777-200's on that route instead?

Due to the early 180min etops certification level (diversion time to alternate base with 1 engine failure at approx 400kts) the whole AKL-USA was in doubt from the get go being across so much water. It has since been cleared to 330mins finally in late june, which allows it. But it appears ANZ had already taken a possible delay into account and announced the western/asian routes will get it first.

A further article I located also mentions its proving grounds will be to the tasman/pacific runs, to some 'select' and 'surprise' destinations for crew familiarisation first. Same as what jetstar did when they got their 788

Air New Zealand said it plans to take physical delivery of its new 787-9, painted with a striking black livery, on July 9 and fly it away from Seattle on July 10.

That of course is US, so likely Friday.

So replacing the 767s, while the 777-300s also arrive (one started/arrived 3 weeks ago)

Also, ZK-NEQ is about, Dash-8 been in for service and got the black/white deals applied.
And for those watching FR24 and noticing the ATRs are missing, CAA decided to turn the GPS feed to the ADSB off until it gets certification papers from the OEM :(

I did the Boeing tour at Paine Field last year also, and we had a Dreamliner take off just after the tour finished...we had a Dreamliner pilot on our tour also and he was full of fun facts...VERY cool tour.

I'd also recommend for anyone going to Everett/Paine Field to go check out the Flying Heritage Collection on the other side of the airfield...it's an AWESOME collection of flying warbirds (including the world's only flying IL-2 Sturmovik) plus some static displays...

Air NZ never had any real plans for the 787 on mainland US flights (with the possible exception of a Houston or Denver flight). It was always going to be a 767 replacement, and targeted for Asia and possible route expansion into some smaller markets and possible expansion to South America.

The US mainland justifies the bigger aircraft, and needs a lot more premium seating (BP and PE cabins are routinely 100% full) whereas the 787 focus is economy seating. BP and PE into Asia aren't a big seller, particularly Japan where package tours make up a bit chunk of the business.

according to the AirNZ press release its another one of the 787-9s going to the UK, not the one flying here

I didn't realise they had a second one almost ready so quickly
