As some one who is tall with long legs Jetstar Domestic is seriously cramped at 29". Unless I can get an exit row I have serious issues trying to walk off a Jetstar flight

It's really interesting to look at aspects of the Singapore Airlines win.

As many will know Air New Zealand have a former SQ 777-200ER leased from Boeing (who actually own the aircraft) flying on the AKL-HNL route at present. This aircraft came out of service with SQ a few months ago and features their 2006 cabin refit on it. They still have 14 of these aircraft in service, and the aircraft used on the WLG-SIN route are even older and have never had a refit since they were delivered in 2002ish.

There have been huge numbers of complaints from customers on the route since the aircraft started flying last week over the dated aircraft and how bad things like the IFE is!

I am around 180 cm and find Jetstar seat pitch just o.k. Any taller and I would have a problem for sure. Also in my favour are slightly short legs for my height!

I've been flying pretty much every week for the past 3-4 months. Mainly to / from Australia.

That said, I avoid the A320 planes. They really are sh*t. I only fly on the 777s and the 787s. I also choose my seats with care......I'm also Star Alliance Gold (53 points away from Elite - should reach that in the next 8 days).......so this all colours my experience.

I'm sorry to say, but ... it's not. You are still lacking the ACJ320 family's experience.

I'm too old to go cheap. Cheap hurts.

So I gladly welcome you as a perfect customer for an 8 seater ACJ layout to choose his seat very carefully. You never have to worry anymore about gold cards, points or mileage collecting crap. The seat's pitch is like whatever you want. And imagine your check-in with absolutely no waiting times! I'm sure the corresponding OPS staff will be capable to handle a 15min turn-around time and the onboard-cook earned his second Michelin star recently.

I'm completely with you - cheap hurts!

(... but mainly those, who have to bring a prime service for cheaper and cheaper due to global competition. I'm sure you will take that in consideration for the next travel booking ).

edit: BTW - there is an ACJ380 option as well ... just in case. ;-)

What's the general opinion of the TripAdviser Top 10 awards? Presumably they're based on actual customer opinions...

I find them generally good. I prefer to fly Premium Economy and their service is not bad (although not as good as when they first introduced it) at all.

Cost wise, domestically they are fine and I won't use anyone else.

Internationally, a totally different story. Their pricing (unless on special) is often just stupidly high. I'm all for loyalty etc but that only goes so far when you are earning the money yourself to pay for the seats. If you can send the bill to the corporate travel wonks to pay, then great. If not, I usually end up on other airlines for long haul where no Air NZ special is available.

As a recent example, I flew to the UK on China Airlines in PE for NZ$2500 return...! Seats are the same as Singapore Airlines PE and service was perfectly pleasant. Not the best ever, but no complaints at the price. The wife suggested a trip to the UK early next year which we eventually decided against, but during our research, Air NZ Business to London was $20,000 return for the two of us and China Airlines was $12,000 in the same class. That is a huge difference.

And yes - the Air NZ A320's on the Aussie routes are awful: less seat space than the planes to Auckland from Wellington, old, shabby and generally not up to what I would expect from Air NZ.

I can't quite rid myself of the suspicion that the fact that the government owns a big chunk of Air NZ - and that they therefore have a vested interest in them over-charging their customers because it nets them more dividend - has more than a little to do with the habitually high pricing....

Yes! That and the inane "funny" safety videos that they keep going well after the novelty has worn off....
