According to SkyTrax. Premium Economy still won an Award.

I'd agree with this. A couple of years after Rob Fyfe took the CEO job, AIR NZ was our favourite airline, having a fantastic product, excellent staff and a general willingness to help if things weren't right. They were flexible and accomodating.

Now they are none of those things in my experience.

Their reward program is horrible too. Bidding for your seats is a stupid idea.

Yeah I am not a fan of Luxon at all. Fyfe was in my opinion one of NZ's greatest CEO's.

I've been flying pretty much every week for the past 3-4 months. Mainly to / from Australia.

That said, I avoid the A320 planes. They really are sh*t. I only fly on the 777s and the 787s. I also choose my seats with care......I'm also Star Alliance Gold (53 points away from Elite - should reach that in the next 8 days).......so this all colours my experience.

I've also had the experience of flying on Virgin Australia around Australia: no leg room. Narrow seats. Even the two toilet (for 220 people) are tiny....on a 5.5 hour flight from Brisbane to Perth. Ugh. I suppose it's like Air NZ's trans-Tasman A320s....which I avoid.

Air NZ did see me arrive in Auckland from OZ and wait for buses to the terminal 3 flights in a row recently. That gets old fast. Disembarking is much slower.

I'm flying to Vancouver on Wednesday. Premium Economy.....so I guess I'm still avoiding the 'true' economy experience.

If you have the money for the better fare grades, then Air NZ is still awesome.

But yeah...I avoid the crap airlines, the rubbish small planes....and generally get great seats no one else wants to spend $20 on (but I get for free).....OK by me.

I'm too old to go cheap. Cheap hurts.

I don't recall Air NZ ever being in the top 10 in the Skytrax awards.

Why are they doing that?

Not enough gates at Intnl terminal or something like that?

Occasionally get the same in Welly, if they park a prop plane on Jet gate (in secure zone), they bus passengers to a different gate 18.  PITA and can take up to 20 minutes

You can thank Auckland Airport. They don't have enough gates at peak times. According to their CEO this is a sign of how awesome they are

"Bussing is part of every large, great, international airport," Littlewood said.

There will be fewer bus xfers at Wellington now that gate 15 is being used by A320s again.

Fly domestic fairly regularly.  Noted definite decline in quality of service and reliability.  I consider it a small miracle when I get a flight that actually leaves on time now.  I do like the app however...but dread the alerts that inevitably start rolling in about flight delays or cancellations.

Yeah the buses suck.  You can see the gate 50 odd meters away and they refuse to let you walk it, instead waiting 15 - 20 minutes to be crammed like sardines onto a bus for a 45 second bus trip.  I get the H&S is a big deal however.

Correct - they were actually #19 last year so have improved by 2 places to #17. People sure love to jump all over our great little airline on here!

It was a lot "greater" 5 years ago.

Not with Skytrax they haven't - since 2012 they've been 17th, 18th, 16th, 17th, 17th, 19th and 17th this year.

I recently traveled to the EU with someone who had only flown AirNZ before to USA/Canada/SE Asia. After security they did a mad dash to the shop for snacks and water, I found it a bit odd but after the flight, this person was shocked at how good the service and the amount of food/drink that was on offer compared to her AirNZ experiences where they got off 8+ hour flight starving and dehydrated because staff took 30+ minutes to answer call signs and the food handed out was small and limited

Can't agree with you more on the A320s, they are trash!

First world problems abound in this thread.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

Out of interest, what do people dislike about the A320s?

I experienced a lot of technical delays when they first went into domestic service a few years ago, but more recently my A320 flights have been on time and trouble free. I don't fly much, though, so maybe I've just been lucky on my last few flights.
