JY: And a postscript from me: as seems to be routine with NZG IT projects - they look good but don’t work very well. Tried to upload airport test results but the web site does not work with Edge on iPhone. I remember that the COVID tracing up didn’t work properly on iPhone either.

traveldeclaration website worked fine on iPhone safari

Yes of course it worked with the native iOS browser, that would have been tested for sure. But Safari is well out if date compared to modern third party iOS browsers such as Edge, Firefox, and Chrome, and I wonder what testing was done with these?

A year ago an Google engineer called out Apple for holding back the web with “uniquely underpowered” iOS browsers, see:

https://infrequently.org/2021/04/progress-delayed/

Edge and Chrome are both popular alternatives to Safari. Edge is particularly impressive if you use both Microsoft and Apple ecosystems.

Edge (especially on mobile) and popular don’t go together. It’s a very niche product.

With the risk of going further off-topic: There is only one rendering browser engine on iOS. No matter which one you use, you are using Safari's WebKit.

Returning from Norway to New Zealand in about a month, with my luck the pre-departure test requirement will be lifted the day after we are back.

Great news today. Looks like the pre-departure tests will be gone from next week according to NZ Herald.

Oh, bleh! And I was just going to post the details of dealing with the pre-departure test from a country where you can't get a pre-departure test on the day you're flying out. If anyone does need any info between now and Tuesday when it all goes away, let me know.

On the plus side, three-hour turnaround for a PCR test was pretty impressive, and it's good to know I wasn't perhaps asymptomatic at some point.

As part of the "Norwegian experience" I have gone through Covid-19, so a PCR test will probably show positive. So was looking forward to RAT test + possibly having to get a doctor to certify that I am Covid-free now.

Here in Norway all Covid-restrictions are gone now, nobody wears maskes and "nobody is sick with Covid", at the same time our dentist here was not surprised when we had to cancel our appointment when we had symptoms (and later tested positive). So I guess Covid now is just part of life here.

They are taking the stance that strains like Omicron are just like that of a common cold. Same with the USA no one is wearing masks anymore when I was there last month.

Yeah, see my post in, I think, the Annoy thread, friend of mine reports that in high-social-contact countries like France it's back to pre-Covid times, hugging and kissing, shared meals/food, no masks, sanitiser containers are there but empty and in any case ignored. She's from Italy and was suitable appalled.

Gotta say the Australia DPD process does not fill my with confidence that I'm not going to get fined $6600 AUD on arrival tomorrow. Noting about it is "approved" it's all just "submitted" in the app and the email you get is just "You have completed all information required before check-in." the phrasing makes me wonder if I've missed something I need to fill in before I land....

Interesting point, the NZ Traveller Pass doesn't say anything about approval to travel, I assume its existence is what indicates that you're approved. Did you get any feedback, an email or anything, acknowledging your submission?

Yup, but it just has the QR code, "New Zealand Traveller Pass", and then name, rank, and serial number. At the bottom there's:

DISCLAIMER

The Traveller Pass does not grant a full right to enter New Zealand.

Travellers still need to meet any applicable Immigration and other

Border requirements. Consequences noted on the pass, such as isolation

on arrival, are indicative only and subject to allocation on arrival.

but that's all there is on there.

NZ QR code comes automatically (90% of the time)

the other 10% is when it is sent for manual review (which was my case as the pre departure test was in US date format so needed to be manually reviewed)

Maybe I'm just being a pedantic so and so but Id actually prefer that NZ style, the DPD wording just doesn't inspire confidence
