I've used a couple of budget jobbies over the years (Rent a dent, etc) and they're fine.

In saying that, I also discovered that you often pay little more to get some wheels with one of the bigger players - without having to meet some dude in a van after hiking (lol) through car parks for 27 minutes in 90% humidity... so whilst using the budget players is fine, check out the bigger players too and ALWAYS check the fine print your contract/s, especially around payment, excesses, kilometres, and insurance coverage.
