I’ve just managed to go Air NZ Elite and have nominated my wife as the Elite Partner.

One of the benefits of Elite is being able to purchase upgrades at a fixed price.  I can’t work out though whether my wife can do this too.  If not, what is the best way of ensuring that we both get upgrades when travelling together.

I know that I can gift her an upgrade, but we only have two upgrades each year.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Last time I had a partner I bought the extra APD thru the AirNZ credit card and gifted her the fixed price upgrades that way

You both need to be traveling together on the same PNR and you need to lodge the APD upgrades. These appear on the upgrade screen in myairnz when you look at the booking.

As she is not an elite she has no access to lodge her own upgrades. If she's flying by herself you will need to gift her an APD upgrade or RU which will clear in line with her status. If she's on the same PNR as you they'll clear in line with your status which will be immediately up to 355 days out depending on R/A class availability.

Have to give you credit Mr Biddle as your working knowledge of Air NZ is second to none! Maybe it would be quicker for folks to ring you rather than the 737 number!
