Partner set up her new Onesmart card, transferred money over from old one on 23/11/2016 but today finds out that they declined a payment on 29/11/2016 - apparently they do not accept 'recurring payments' - she had a monthly subscription charged to her old Onesmart account!

We go overseas in May 2017 and enjoyed the old Onesmart when travelling as we could load local currencies and use their app as well.

After today's debacle with them we are wondering what other travel cards are available with local currency 'wallets'?

I haven't used it, but something like the Travelex Multi-currency Cash Passport?

The new OneSmart simply is a white label Travelex card. If you like the product there are also very few reasons to use the OneSmart product, you may as well just go to Travelex direct where you get ~2% better rates, unlimited ATM withdrawls and no monthly fee.

A number of other banks incl ANZ & BNZ just resell the same white label Travelex Cash Passport product.

From Westpac's travel card PDS (which i assume also applies to Loaded as it's also driven by visa):

"Cycle payment transactions (i.e. if you agree with a Visa merchant that an amount will be debited against your account on a regular basis) are not permitted on the cards."

I can't help but feel that the NZ banks are missing a trick here. It's clear there is customer demand for a multi-currency debit card, not explicitly for use with travel, that can be used anywhere in the world.
