We have come a long way since the days when flying was a luxury experience. I don't like the idea of weapons on planes, even non-lethal ones. As pointed out, they can be turned against the crews. Trained air marshals are another matter. There should also be better restraining devices available, so once someone is subdued, it doesn't have to be done again.

Better solution: trap doors under each seat. No parachutes.

I think the issue is more whether it's safer to have the flight attendants armed with tasers and whether there's sufficient training involved - it didn't sound like the Korean Airlines staff had any/enough training on how to use them and could have potentially made a bad situation worse. An important part of the training should also be WHEN to use them.

Not enough information is provided to establish that the guy was being a dick. He may have been having a mental breakdown or psychotic episode. He needed to be restrained for the safety of others. That is all.

The flight attendant may well have been trained and decided that Tazer use was not required in this situation. It looks like a good decision. Tazer use could have hardly improved it and may have resulted in greater injury.

Sounds like he was never properly restrained. It's not hard to do. Cable ties are a good way to do it without any danger to anyone. They're easily cut in an emergency.
