Another delayed flight today by 50 minutes which the knew about 4 hours in advance from Auck to CCH.

The second delay was the worst, 5 hours I sat round in Auck domestic.

I know you get what you pay for but in this case Im barely saving anything over Air NZ.

Jetstar is becoming so unreliable its not worth risking business to save $50 a flight. And if they are profitable why does Air NZ just not take their business?

You booked Jetstar when you really needed to be somewhere at a particular time?

I think you have answered your own question. I have never used them myself. My brother uses them, and complains about them, but still uses them, so they can't be that bad for most people. However they do serve the market well in terms of providing competition. Without them in the market, we could be paying a lot more.

Yup,a vote of thanks to @Tealeaf for taking one (or in this case 4) for the team.

I encourage other GZers to fly Jetstar. So that I won't have to.

cool

Only ever had one delayed flight on jetstar and that was last week returning home to Auckland from Queenstown

You get what you pay for and a delayed flight home by 50 minutes did not bother me at all

I have never had a Jetstar flight that wasn't significantly delayed. I only use them for NZ holidays where an hour or three isn't going to escalate into a costly disaster. I've had significant savings by putting up with the shoddy service though.

Jetstar get a bad name.. over the last 4 year period I've flown aprox 140 domestic flights, and about 2/3rds were on Jetstar.. I've had more problem with Air NZ in that time, despite only taking half as many flights with them as with Jetstar.

The company I work for changed to Jetstar to save money on flights, but after too many flight delays etc they have gone back to Air New Zealand.

But as others have said, we need them to keep Air NZ's prices down. Check the prices of flights to centres that Jetstar doesn't service, eg Chch-Inv-Chch cost us $600 for same day flights.

Jetstar's single biggest issue is that they have the bare minimum of aircraft required to operate their services, and many of these aircraft are flying 16+ hours per day. Once many have flown domestic routes for the day they then fly return flights to Australia overnight.

Once things go wrong, they go horribly wrong, and recovering is typically impossible on the same day.

Air NZ aren't immune from weather delays either but due to their fleet makeup and routes they can be subject to fewer ongoing problems and recovering from these is always a lot quicker.

The great thing in NZ is people have a choice of airlines.

If the airport company had spent money on an autoland instrument system for the runway (like Auckland has), then fog would not be an issue. But customers don't see that like a fancy terminal and entrance road. They have been doing major works for the 'Once a Day' A380, but didn't incorporate the lighting required for autoland at the same time.

Out of interest. All AirNZ's A320 are fully autoland capable (Cat 3B), Jetstar not necessarily (some are, some aren't).

Heard of them, never used them. Too many bad stories from friends and colleagues to make it a brand I would fly with.

The reference in my post was to a comedy called Toast of London, about an actor called Stephen Toast. Often when someone refers to someone well known who he dislikes, his response is "Never heard of them".
