Through my bank, I get a few Koru passes, when I've spend a certain amount of money on the credit card.

If I book a flight, it will automatically work out that I can use one of my complimentary Koru passes, as it associates it with my Air NZ flight.

My question is: If I invite a friend, how does it work? Do I just give them my voucher number at the Koru Club reception? Do they need to see my friends boarding pass (proving that he's flying with Air NZ)?

In the email I get telling me I have earnt another voucher, the is a line saying xxxx can also use the voucher. My other half is shared account name.ie linked to her name as she just scans boarding pass and it electronically deducts a Koru pass from balance

Makes me think voucher is for named bank user. Ring ANZ and ask though..

Your friend has to be travelling with you. And in that case, you just scan both boarding passes (scan your one first), and they will generally just look at their screen, and wave you through, and deduct the second voucher from your account as well.

Nope.

Or more precisely it depends on the bank and AirNZ on the day, even with our joint card AirNZ wouldn't let my wife use a complimentary pass while in Auckland because they had been incorrectly loading them against my AirNZ account only.

Edit: I should add, they might be better about it if you are travelling together as above.

Bugger!

I was hoping to offer the complimentary pass to a friend, who's not travelling on the same plane as me.

My wife tried to use one of the vouchers, when she went travelling by herself a couple of weeks ago. They didn't allow her in.

She could even document that she's an additional credit card holder (where I'm the main one). They wouldn't allow her in, without me travelling with her.

Quite pathetic, really. I can understand if it's for a friend, but if it's for an additional credit card holder (we can even document that we're married), why isn't she allowed in. She contributes to the spending as well.

There are some subtle differences between the airpoints credit card issuers and their 'benefits'. For the bulk of card issuers, the vouchers are for YOU and someone travelling with you at the same time. You are the primary card holder so the vouchers are only allocated to you. You both must be travelling on Air NZ flights ( not sure if needs to be the same flight) and you present your airpoints card or printed voucher and they remove from the system.

Most of the banks tie the vouchers to you explicitly - the 'primary card owner' which means you need to be flying or present at the lounge.  Kiwibank is different and their benefit from what I can see ( I'm with Kiwibank) is they also allow the vouchers to be used by partner and or supplementary card holder.   I don't think all/any other providers offer that. I'm also not sure if they offer it as she's my wife or because she is the supplementary card holder but in the emails from them it says something along the lines of " of course, your vouchers can be used in exactly the same way by Mrs xxx"

That means my wife can turn up and take the daughter / friend when they are travelling on Air NZ and use both vouchers.

Easiest way to check is to review your airpoints account online and you can see how many vouchers you have. Then get your partner to login and check their airpoints account and you will see if they also have the same vouchers listed.

I see, so Kiwibank offers this, but ANZ doesn't.

Yes, my wife hasn't got the vouchers shown, when she logs in to Air NZ.

Yeah I thought your wife should have got through if she's a joint card holder *and* she's setup on the card with her airpoints number *and* her airpoints number is on her boarding pass.

When we're on family trips I've been able to use 5 vouchers to get myself, wife and three kids into the lounge but it's at the discretion of the front desk and won't happen if the lounge is overcrowded.

But you could never assign a pass to someone flying on another flight.

I was told by ANZ that as she's an additional card holder and NOT a joint card holder (apparently ANZ doesn't offer joint accounts anymore), she can't enter the lounge without the main card holder (which is me).

We're on Kiwibank platinum mastercard airpoints - last time I looked they seemed to have the best package. With our household spending seem to easily accumulate more lounge passes than I can ever use and about $2-3k of air dollars a year - enough for a family gold coast holiday.

We accumulate enough lounge passes too (2 passes per $20k spent on the credit card). However, as wifey and I don't always travel together, it's a bit unfair that she loses out.

It doesn't matter if you're a additional card holder or a joint card holder with ANZ - the other person using the lounge vouchers is not a benefit of the ANZ card. It's only the primary cardholder that can use them with the Airpoints account linked to the card.

The joint cardholder being able to use the lounge vouchers is on only a benefit of the Air NZ Airpoints credit card.

Each different card offering has some subtle differences between it - they are not all the same. The Air NZ Airpoints credit card for example also lets you purchase Airpoints Dollars, something none of the other cards offer.

If you have to spend $20k to get two vouchers, it would be cheaper just to get Koru membership at $500 a year and go in as many times as you like...!
