Going off to central europe for a while and want to take my important clothing's and some suits really, So the luggage wont see much more action once it reaches destination, it may see use maybe once or twice every couple of years in air travels or just be for inner city moving flats etc, for anything beyond eg. actual traveling around country to country, that I will just use smaller stuff or just a backpack.

Already own a Katmandu Glidetech 70L Backpack, and a 10 year old soft wheeled suitcase which may have a couple more travels left in it. But I thought I'd just go in the market to grab something more decent and actual luggage. nothing top of the line or too fancy, I know how they are treated in the airports.

So Geekzoners...some suggestions and budget welcome, dont mind second hand, What I am after would be 1. an nice large durable suitcase, preferably wont just brake apart in the airport, I am thinking fabric soft shell, then 2. Maybe some smaller vintage looking suitcase/carry/handbag type of deal.

:)

I highly recommend Tom Bihn bags. Handmade in Seattle and worth their price for sure.

If you want something bulletproof, Red Oxx is an alternative but they are a tad heavier than the Bihn due to heavier fabric and cast stainless fittings etc.

Both have lifetime warranty.

I still have a 20 year old Samsonite soft shell, rolling suitcase. Giant. Bought a carry-on Samsonite about three years ago, very handy for hops across the Tasman. The brand is still a good one...

Samsonite is widely available anywhere in New Zealand, through most luggage stores.

The large one is 29". Something like this Samsonite Lift. The carry-on is a smaller 20" like this Samsonite Aspire.

You can find those in New Zealand at Strandbags.

Only had two suitcases in about 30 years - first was a hardshell Delsey and the current Samsonite.

Cheers. So mind me asking how often its seen use and obviously its held up well over the decades, I think samsonite may be just right for my purposes. It will see use in air travels maybe once a year really.

And what are the thoughts on carry on luggage, suggestions for sizes to look out for to make best use?

I was also thinking to grab a little retro carry suitcase with the leather belts around, something classy about them, see many folks using them these days? Or does it come off as too much FOB? haha.

Just a suggestion, but if you can find cheap bags to use on your outward leg, you may find that the Samsonite stuff is actually cheaper in Europe, so you could buy it there and fly back with it.

Any body have any experience or knowledge about NZ Luggage Co?

Is it a Reputable maker or is it just rebranded cheapo stuff?

Saw some deals of their stuff, includes carry luggage as well, quite affordable with inclusive shipping. Not to mention they are quite lite so I can put in more stuff. :D

I'm another Samsonite fan.  I have a cabin bag sized spinner.  Bought at a luggage chain store.

I travel frequently for work, including international.  As a general rule, I don't check luggage.  This saves a lot of time and there is less weight to carry.  I've done multiple week overseas trips with my 7kg cabin bag and a suit roll.

The Samsonite is great because it has lots of internal room, with a low initial weight, and it's reasonably secure.
