Heading to the US later in the year.  My wife and I are booked into PE with Air NZ and am wanting to go for an upgrade.  I have a recognition upgrade avaliable and we have access to a family member who is Elite and able to gift another RU upgrade.  Its a single ticket that I booked with us both on it.

The family member has not gifted the RU yet, but I want to make sure they gift it correctly.  Am I right they should gift it to my wife (and not me) and then do we each seperately go for an upgrade using our avaliable RU's or do I need to call the contact center?

Also why I have the experts attention, can you use RU's for Sky Couch (this is a question for someone else, not what we are wanting to do for this trip)

Thanks

When they gift an upgrade it doesn't appear in your account - they need to add her as a giftee and lodge it against your PNR and select her in the upgrade screen when they apply it.

Once they've lodged the upgrade for her you'll have to ring Air NZ and manually lodge your RU. You can try this online yourself first but it probably won't work since an upgrade has already been lodged for 1 pax on the PNR so this seems to break things if another upgrade it applied from a different person. I have heard in the past that the PNR needed to be split to do this but this may no longer be necessary.

You can't lodge an RU for a SkyCouch, and to be completely honest I'm not sure why anybody would want to do this.

Thanks @sbiddle I had a feeling it might be you that had all the answers!  Re. the sky couch friends got an upgrade to the sky couch back from San Fran and loved it with their young baby. He has an upgrade so was wondering if it was a possibility for them on their flights later in the year.

Cheers

I recently got a RU from PE to BP going to LAX. Requested it a couple months out, couldn't get it confirmed until I got to the lounge :)
