Hello,
In 9 days my wife and I have a whole day in Melbourne 830am-430pm.
Can anyone recommend sights to see based around the CBD?

Never been to Melbourne so really looking forward to it, unfortunately only 1 day.

Thank you for any help.

If you only have one day, you might get the best chance of catching things by hopping on the City Circle tram. Maps on the tram have sights marked and you can just get on and off as it suits. Is this a port call for a cruise, or just passing through?

We were there earlier in the week.

Yes the free Circular Tram is a good deal. Perhaps a small cruise on the Yarra for a different viewpoint-we went on the Older looking Boat MV Eureka. Actually build last year. Not so crowded and better views. Also looking at a walk on the Southbank Nice to see the skyline and access the shopping malls of the Crown Plazza and that whole district.

That sounds good.
Yep on a cruise, killing two birds with one stone.

As others have mentioned, the central city tram is free, but if you want to take a tram to somewhere like Port Melbourne, St Kilda, or Albert Lake Park then you will need a MiKi. These can be easily purchased using the vending machines at the major railway stations, with whatever pre-loaded credit you think you need.

Personally I like taking the tram down St Kilda Road, then walking through Albert Lake Park and continuing on to St Kilda. From there you can easily take a tram back into town.

@DamageInc the cruise line may arrange for buses to take you all into town from the port, and they'll probably drop you at/near a tram stop, so it's really easy to get around. Just don't be late back to the ship ;-)

Whatever you end up doing in Melbourne, enjoy! That goes for the cruise also.

Cheers Stu. Some ports they do some they don’t, will find out more once on the ship. Shore excursions are a bit different, all organised etc.
Thanks so much really excited for both.

We've cruised into Melbourne on a Princess ship. It was a two day stop over, but it was summer with a gnarly 42C and rather humid, so we stayed on board for the second day! Buses were provided to shuttle passengers from the port to a couple of places in town, including a tram stop. We'd been to Melbourne before, so one day was enough to catch a couple of things we'd missed previously.

Cool, what was Princess like? We’re on Royal Caribbean.

No doubt we’ll want to do some shopping plus see the sights on the way. My wife has spotted a DFO outlet centre plus we understand Melbourne is great for cafes, eateries etc.

Are there any shopping areas worth a visit?

The Botanic Gardens and Shrine of Remembrance are worth a look. Steer clear of Queen Vic Markets.
