Hi everyone,

I was just wondering what everyones experiences with paper passport application processing times was. It's a child application sent on Sunday 24th Feb but I didn't get a confirmation email until the 2nd March. Using the standard service.

Cheers,

Was it an new application or a renewal? renewals are generally quicker..

I had an adult renewal done last month,  Submitted on 11th, received confirmation on the 13th, it was completed and dispatched on the 18th

From Memory Kids passports often take a bit longer, but I would still expect it to be finished by the end of the week

2 adult passport renewals using standard service

one  took 4 days

the other took 7 days

Cant explain the delay on the second one, though they were both applied at the same time.

Two passport renewals submitted lunch time on a Sunday, 25hrs later we got emails to say the application was completed and passports were already despatched.

Renewals are now (finally) very efficient.

New will take a bit of time.

I know I should've couriered it. But it was a Sunday so didn't book a pickup and had some prepaid envelopes lying around needing to be used.

For important documents DO NOT RELY ON NZ POST STANDARD SERVICE.

For example, NZ Post failed to clear a mailbox in Dunedin CBD for a month. A whole month.

I have applied online for my last three renewals and using standard service got a passport in less than a week. In one case applied on Friday and received the new document on Tuesday afternoon.

Although in this case the OP has had it confirmed that it did arrive and has now been processed,

But I suspect it added at least a couple of days until the 10 day window actually started. - all going well it should be finished tomorrow or early next week...

Correct. The point was made for future readers - sending via standard mail will add time. If you are worried about that variable, cut it short.

Slightly off topic.. my recent online renewal for one of my children saw our chosen referee get a phone call and was asked questions !

Still, it was a really quick turnaround...about 7-8 working days to be in our hands.

That sounds odd to me! What questions were they asked?
