I just had a thought after seeing the post about being caught 277 status credits short. Should the airlines be considering suspending expiry of status credits while travel across the world is being cancelled and airlines are cutting routes? As it is, I suspect a lot of people are going to be dropping status because of this - I'm probably going to drop two levels as a result of it!

Sure it's a first world problem. But I can't see what we or our airlines can directly do about third and second world problems. So what's your point?

My point was that people around the world are worrying about losing their jobs, elderly relatives dying, shares plummeting, health services being overrun etc etc. Set against those, your question seems trivial to say the least. But my comment was slightly in jest, which is so often lost on the Internet, no offence intended

Doubt it - They're already finding it tough financially and that would only add to it.

I was on track to keep my status by renewal in August and right now all my trips, domestic and international, are on hold so a status extension would be welcomed. Some airlines and hotel chains have already implemented this, but it might be a struggle for Air NZ under current conditions.

I have a radical idea - why not ask your airline?

I fly domestically and a vaaaaaaaaaast majority of my status points arrive via my credit card.

So personally, I simply don't care.

If I lose a status level it will have absolutely no effect on me personally (oh no - not silver!!).

Would be nice - staus is about to expire, and my international travel has all been postponed.

However AirNZ has been awesome where they have given credit for flights that by right had no refund or transferability. So in this case status vs losing the money - lose the status 100%
