Does anybody know whether this applies to transit passenger?

I am flying Wellington/Sydney/Singapore. 2 hours transit in Sydney airport.

Technically I am not entering Australia as I will not pass through immigration.

What website might I get clarification? Been on hold for the last hour on the phone to Qantas.

As you said you’re not officially entering Australia as you don’t go through immigration so no you won’t be stuck there for 14 days before being able to continue to Singapore.

I'm confused by your question.

Singapore updated it's self isolation last night https://www.moh.gov.sg/news-highlights/details/additional-precautionary-measures-to-prevent-further-importation-of-covid-19-cases

If you don't meet any of those rules you won't be required to self isolate in Singapore.

Try the Australian High Commission in wellington (4) 473 6411, or the consul general in Auckland (9) 921 8800 it might be quicker...

Singapore's announced restriction's don't currently apply to NZ, its ASEAN +Japan+ Switzerland and UK, ( strangly not Italy+ other EU countries)

Qantas just answered my call.

I am good to fly. Transit is okay.

PS. Singapore's restriction does not apply to visitors from NZ.

Hope no further restrictions in the next couple of days.

If you are a New Zealander, please be aware of the NZ travel advisory:

"New Zealanders should avoid all non-essential travel overseas"

https://safetravel.govt.nz/covid-19-coronavirus#overlay-context=covid-19-coronavirus

This may impact your travel insurance.

Thanks.

From my point of view my travel is essential.

Travel insurance will try every trick to avoid paying out. In all the years I had travel insurance, I had not had a successful claim.

The acid test right now should be...

"Is it worth dying for?"

That's the worst-case scenario.

These are not normal times, abnormal questions need to be asked and answered.

Or if I DO do it, could I accidentally kill someone else.

These 14 day isolation periods are going to reduce trans-Tasman passenger numbers to nearly zero.   Unless you are going to Australia for a really long holiday who will want to self-isolate in Australa for 14 days & another 14 days in NZ once you get back.   If people ignore the isolation periods the governments may close down flights entirely.

Not my place to question that your travel is essential given I know nothing about you.

Would recommend that you make that your travel insurance covers you in the event that you get COVID 19. ICU care can cost well above USD10,000 per day, and people have been requiring it for weeks.

Basically no travel insurance will cover covid-19 related disruption now, so you will need to carry that risk yourself. There is a risk that global travel basically stops and you are stranded on singapore for an extended period. That said, Singapore is one of the best prepared countries in the world for a pandemic, so that could work out OK.

That's pretty much the point, and it gets round the nasty "ban" word....

Someone should be keeping an eye on airports (esp ZQN) to see how many of the mega-rich actually do have bolt holes down here... because if you have one 14 days isolation is a pretty small price to pay to ride out 2-3 months of hell in the Nth Hemisphere,

One of the guys at work lives in Wellington during the week and commutes home to Australia for the weekend. That option is no longer possible obviously.
