I'm not overly familiar with the new road down to Hamilton.

I've been on it once but going north.

I'm thinking of taking a trip down to the Base and PBTech, both on Te Rapa Rd.

Google Maps suggests getting off SH1 way up by Horotiu and beetling all the way down Te Rapa Rd.

But looking at the map, it seems like it would be quicker to stay on SH1 until Wairere Dr, but on closer inspection is there no off-ramp there as you head south??

If that is the case, then is it best to get off at Koura Dr and do the Onion/Ruffell Rd dogleg onto Te Rapa Rd?

Definitely get off at Horotiu.

Te Rapa Road is 80km/h anyway, so doesn't take that long to go past the dairy factory and to The Base.

The new road bypassing Huntly makes that trip from Auckland a breeze now. I turn on Cruise Control at about Drury, and don't turn it off until Horotiu.

Thank you @trig42 , I shall do as Google directs. :)

Out of interest, is it possible to get off at Wairere Dr?

No, no southbound offramp there.

Yep, get off at Horotiu, it's shorter and usually quicker than going via Ruffell Road.

It is absolutrely crazy there is no off ramp or on ramp to from Wairere Drive.

You come up on the entrance to PB Tech quite suddenly from the north. The entrance is right where the sign is. PB Tech share a big sign with Top Town Tyres and I think Hunting and Fishing. If you overshoot the driveway you'll need to go "Round the Block" so to speak, that is left onto Bryant at the round-a-bout next left into Vickery all the way back up to Pukete Road turning left back out to Te Rapa road. If the traffic isn't too heavy, instead of turning left at the round-a-bout into Bryant go right around the round-a-about and back up to PB Tech where there is a turning bay opposite their entrance. This option is OK in light traffic otherwise it can take a while to get a suitable gap in the two lanes of traffic you need to cross.

Once you go through the set of lights by the Z station just keep a a good look out for the big sign by the entrance to the car park. It's a big sign but can be easy to miss. You won't see any buiding signage until you are in the car park or as you drive past if you miss the entrance.

There is no southbound exit at Wairere drive, either exit at Horotiu (it's only a 5 min drive to PB tech from there) or exit at Te Kowhai/Raglan and navigate your way thru the industrial area back to Te Rapa Straight.
