i have been trying to cancel a flight for 3 days. Every time I call Air NZ, it says it will be at least an hour and then cuts me off long before the hour is up.

 

The online cancellation options simply say that the flight cannot be cancelled online and to ring them.

 

What options are left?!

You can cancel flights online at Air NZ. Be warned you'll only get credit if its a flexifare. They have stopped giving credits, due to covid disruptions, for standard tickets for local flights.So its still go, even though event is canceled or change to another date. Sorry just reread, you tried online. But all you can do with ticket is still go or change date. There's a lot of annoyed people at the moment due to all the events canceled

WhatsApp has been good for me in the past but not sure how good it is now given I assume it's manned by the same team that does Messenger.

 

If you're near the airport (or perhaps even a Air NZ office) another option could be to front up and cancel it in person.

Not if part of it was paid by using an existing credit.  Not sure of OP's case, but I had to call AirNZ to cancel my fully-refundable flight, as it was part-paid with credit.  Took a few attempts, and lots of hold music.

Ring them during peak driving hours.... 730am-9am and 430pm-530pm

 

Start the call 20mins before...  that way that 50 minute time will dwindle down by half an hour by the time they answer.

Quite often the button to cancel flights is greyed out. I've seen this happen even for flexi bookings paid for with credit card. For non-flexi bookings I've never seen the cancel button functional.
