I have to go to the Australian High Commission next week coming form Whanganui

I have access to the parking on site so thats not an issue

Looking at AA Roadwatch and Google maps

It looks like I have two main choices coming in on the Hutt road then a left into Hobson or State highway and a bit of a ride around to get to hobson st

Appreciate any thoughts form someone who may go to that area regularly?

I would come in via Hutt road.  Get off it and onto Tinakori Road and left onto Hobson.

Avoid molesworth st

i'd go hutt road - tinakori road - hobson... the more direct way.

the 'ride around to get to hobson street' from the other side might lead you to encounter the protesters around parliament, as well (should they still be there)...

The current troubles around parliament are pretty much how Whanganui is all the time, you'll be fine ;)

I would tend to disagree with the comments above, unless you're coming in around rush hour.

Going off at Murphy, left into Pipitea and left into Hobson is quick and simple.

There should be no need to go near Molesworth.

If you're not familiar the streets around the High Comm get quite busy as there are three schools very close by. Add the school buses and they get very narrow too.

When you leave, you can go via Tinakori and North onto Hutt road or South and take the Tinakori road on ramp into SH1. Alternatively, go downhill on Hobson onto Davis then you're on Hutt road again.

I would ultimately follow Google maps, with the live traffic updates, on the day.
