Himself and I are in Nelson for the next 3 nights.

We have noticed a startling number of eateries are closed, some for good.

Monday nights only option so far is Lone Star, blerk.

Any Nelsonites with some local knowledge have other suggestions?

I am on a diet, but I could starve here!

I'd start here.

https://www.tripadvisor.co.nz/Restaurants-g255678-Nelson_Nelson_Tasman_Region_South_Island.html

Mondays is hard to find places to eat anywhere these days.

thx @networkn , we dont even have the option of dining in at our accommodation, the Rutherford.

4 stars but the restaurant and bar are non-operational.

We are finding places via google and such, but when we go to them, there is either nothing there or they look closed for good. Hence a locals knowledge of what is actually still operating would be useful.

Yup, can't help you with local information specifically, but I'd advise always calling before going somewhere now as a general rule, the number of places in Auckland we have been to that have had bookings to arrive to find them closed, due to unexpected staff shortages etc isn't insignificant.

I do recall there being a food truck that sold baked potatoes that were as good as anything I'd had anywhere, in the CBD, but I don't know if it's still there or what hours it operates for.

McCashins is great. Need a car though. Menu looks pretty budget, but, the food was delicious.

Also, there is a really great pizza place in Richmond, wood fired pizzas. Can't recall the name, you could google it.

I have no idea if they are open today though.

We were in Nelson two weeks past, recommend the Boat Shed and The Honest Lawyer. Tricky finding parks around the boat shed in peak times, The Honest Lawyer no hassles although the car park was a bit of a mission either chair, may pot holes. The food was great at both but the Boat Shed was ahead by quite a bit. I had seafood chowder that was very good and my wife had Truffles on something and thought it was pure heaven.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Last night we went to Chokdee thai restaurant.

Very delicious. The duck rosti entree was divine but quite large, more of a small main really.

Himself had wonton wrapped prawns and declared them the best he had ever had.

For mains I had the Gaeng Kur pineapple curry with chicken, which I've not seen on a thai menu before.

Very very tasty and deserves to be on all thai menus.

Himself had the prawn and cashews stirfry and had to be prevented from licking the plate clean.

Thoroughly recommended.

Tonight we went to the Boat Shed Cafe.

For a seafood restaurant the seafood selection was a bit lacking.

Nice choices in the Bites and Entrees but just one seafood main I think.

Himself had clams and hoovered them up.

I had a salmon bite which actually took 5 bites so was a nice size for me.

Himself had a steak medium rare which was cooked to perfection.

He was disappointed there were not more seafoody mains to choose from but could not fault the steak.

I had the catch of the day, terakihi, which was beautifully cooked.

Also top notch service, earning themselves a tip from Himself which doesnt happen very often, so top marks to them.

Nice to see a few more places in general open today.
