So they voted it down and now all our nurses are walking out on thursday.

What is your views on this, I think the public are not going to be as supportive given the amount of money offered as well as everything else.

I only know two nurses and they are both on 60k + and are saying they don't condone the strike.

I personally think they deserve a pay increase and more nurses etc but how far you do you go and pay

My Mother in Law was a district health nurse and earned every penny that she made. She said to me a couple of years before she died that her role had become nothing more than a "Hand on the keyboard of technological and health care provider avoidance"

Looking at what my IT support company charge for their time and what my Mother in Law earned, I think this is a fair forum to say that the nurses strike should be supported.

They have had a huge offer that they deserved.

They are getting greedy. My surgery has been delayed as a result with no date. Hugely disruptive.

I don't approve of strike action on principle.

I certainly do not approve of it from people who proclaim that their job is a 'profession' rather than a blue collar job. If it is a profession, act like professionals not disgruntled British Leyland workers circa 1977.

Maybe the package can be tweaked to involve a few months of back pay & full increases paid sooner?

These strikes are not the work of the Government, they are however a part of the bargaining process as is the employers ability to lock workers out to bring about progress in negotiations

Thats a bit harsh. If National had managed Health, the nurses would not be left and left and left behind. Admittedly, under Labour there is more of a strike mentality, BUT the issue now is years old. Its been inherited.

On topic, if nurses have been left behind, thats fair. I gather a key if not the major issue is staffing, not pay?

Its better to look at this as an issue, not a political issue (although it is inherently). We can argue conservative or liberal, but for this topic, do they deserve it or not? Pay rates seem fine, and in my infrequent visits for care, it seems an easy job. But its the hours, the shifts, and the overwork that seems to be the issue.

Education appears the same.

The strike confirmed before ERA has passed its recommendations, that not great from the nurses

And "

On Wednesday, nurses were clear with employers that they didn't have any choice, she said.

"We can't just pull a strike off. Our members have been very clear that they wanted this day of action."

Bargaining was not over, she said."

It seems that they wanted the strike anyway?

The dispute isn't strictly about pay. The nurses are concerned about staffing levels and the structure of the health system. Which isn't really addressed in the offer they received.
