AND.... it looks like he has found a reverse gear and has not said he will go through with the Twitter purchase.

I am sure it was because he got told he would

A) LOOSE the court case

B) End up paying for legal fees for everyone

C) Severely damage his reputation (which is grossly overrated anyway).

The court case could have delved into ALL of his businesses and let the punters see the quicksand its built on, and the whole thing could have sunk.

He is screwed either way, Twitter is an "open sewer" as Thunderfoot calls it.

I am sure the data mining and adverts will skyrocket as he tries to recover his losses.... needs to use that AI somehow.

Great business model:
  • purchase a company unconditionally and without due diligence
  • get buyer's remorse
  • trash talk the company
  • stock loses 40% of its value
  • reluctantly purchase the company
To do: Allow Trump back on Twitter. Sale for a loss of $24 billion.

New York Times: Elon Musk Suggests Buying Twitter at His Original Price

Elon Musk, in a surprise move that adds another twist to a months long drama that has preoccupied Silicon Valley, Wall Street and Washington, proposed a deal with Twitter on Monday evening that could bring to an end an acrimonious legal fight between the billionaire and the social media company.

The arrangement would allow Mr. Musk to acquire Twitter at $54.20 per share, the price he agreed to pay for the company in April, two people familiar with the proposal who were not authorized to speak publicly said.
...
Twitter will likely insist on broader protections from a court in Delaware, where its suit was filed, to ensure that Mr. Musk follows through with his offer, legal experts said. But a deal could allow both sides to avoid a messy public trial, which most likely would have featured testimony from Mr. Musk and senior Twitter executives. Mr. Musk is scheduled to be deposed on Thursday and Friday in Austin, Texas, according to a legal filing.

The potential agreement comes after months of disputes that have created existential challenges for Twitter, cratering its share price, demoralizing its employees and spooking the advertisers it relies on for revenue.

The very public fight between Mr. Musk and the company he has pursued and discarded and apparently pursued again has also exposed surprising fault lines between the professional executives tasked with running the tech industry’s companies and its risk-taking entrepreneurs and investors.

Mr. Musk, with his repeated, scathing criticism of Twitter and its management, has often seemed more interested in taking a wrecking ball to the company than becoming its new owner. Mr. Musk’s critics have argued that he has simply been looking for anything to justify backing out of a rash decision he had quickly come to regret.

Musk claimed this week that he wanted to close the deal at the original price. But it’s not so simple.

""
The social media giant is evidently unwilling to halt the proceedings until it is sure the transaction will actually go through. In recent days, some sources of Musk’s original funding have reportedly gotten cold feet, throwing the logistics of the deal into question.

Schrodinger's billionaire ?
I expect, apart from 'impulse' while under influence.
Or nefarious, lets make an offer, then talk price down, till they are begging me.

He expected to be able to pick and choose investors flocking to bankroll the deal,
because he creates his own reality distortion field.
Remember when he said he had backing to take Tesla private, and ...

Then there is the air hockey table in a vacuum tube thing.

First making Russia happy and the Ukraine unhappy, now making China happy and Taiwan unhappy.

Perhaps he can take over from Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, and create Middle East peace

CNN: Elon Musk’s unsolicited idea for Taiwan welcomed by Beijing, slammed in Taipei

As tensions between China and Taiwan simmer at their highest point in decades, officials in both places have clashed in recent days over an unsolicited idea from billionaire Elon Musk.

The world’s richest man suggested in an interview that hostilities between the two could be resolved if Taipei handed some control of the democratically governed island to Beijing, prompting praise from China and predictable outrage in Taiwan.

“My recommendation … would be to figure out a special administrative zone for Taiwan that is reasonably palatable, probably won’t make everyone happy,” Musk told the Financial Times in an interview published on Friday. “And it’s possible, and I think probably, in fact, that they could have an arrangement that’s more lenient than Hong Kong.”

China’s ambassador to the United States, Qin Gang, thanked Musk for his suggestion in a tweet Saturday, calling for “peaceful unification and one country, two systems.”

But Taiwan’s representative to the US, Bi-khim Hsiao, wrote: “Taiwan sells many products, but our freedom and democracy are not for sale.”

So Taiwan should become a 'special' administrative zone, just like Hong Kong, and China will promise to respect its independence, just like Hong Kong? Yeah, right.

Elon Musk needs cash for Twitter, for real I guess.
Someone elses cash as he is not that liquid, 'anyone got a spare couch ?'

Looks like Musk is trying to get the same deal with Deutsche Bank that Trump got.
So he goes straight to the boss to get the loan approved? :-)

Elon Musk denies report he spoke with Vladimir Putin before tweeting about ‘peace’ between Russia and Ukraine
Ian Bremmer, head of political-risk consultancy Eurasia Group, wrote in a note to clients on Monday that Musk told him about recently speaking with the Russian president.
https://fortune.com/2022/10/11/elon-musk-ian-bremmer-putin-russia-ukraine/amp/

If you had a half decent spy agency, given how reckless Musk is in his personal life you also have other intelligence on him?

CCP of China also has a Tesla factory, then there is supply of LiFePo4 batteries etc.
Not just looking to China market, this is exporting Teslas he needs to do well to keep Tesla stock values.

So the great freedom of speech, let democracy be free supporter...
Musk now has a final solution for Taiwan. The next Tibet, Hong Kong and Xinjiang
Actually, Taiwanese do vote freely, and their votes speak volumes Elon.

If you don't have the 10's Billions to bail Elon Musk out, your freedom is of no importance.

This article says advanced starlink services cost US$4500 per month. What kind of service do you get for that?

You'll regret that decision when you need to use his hyperloops, brain chips. and Rosie the robot maid..Don't forget all those Tesla owners getting rich by having their cars become self-driving taxi when not otherwise used.

Of course he might be busy creating peace in the Ukraine and Taiwan, and personally reforming antisemites like his friend Kanye West/Ye: "Talked to ye today & expressed my concerns about his recent tweet, which I think he took to heart." (See next day's news "The Shop Pulls Ye Interview After He ‘Reiterated More Hate Speech’")

Elon Musk Can't Fix Your Commute

The New York Times

"Say what you will about Elon Musk, but the man has ideas. Loads of them.

He has ideas about how to improve Twitter and colonize Mars. He has ideas about space tourism and the future of artificial intelligence. He has ideas about how to end the war in Ukraine and save children trapped in underground caves.

But in the video above, Adam Kovacs, who runs the YouTube channel Adam Something, suggests that unrelenting bravado and tremendous wealth don’t necessarily make bad ideas good.

Musk statement to advertisers indicates content moderation will continue in some form.

Elon Musk: I wanted to reach out personally to share my motivation in acquiring Twitter. There has been much speculation about why I bought Twitter and what I think about advertising. Most of it has been wrong.

The reason I acquired Twitter is because it is important to the future of civilization to have a common digital town square, where a wide range of beliefs can be debated in a healthy manner, without resorting to violence. There is currently great danger that social media will splinter into far right wing and far left wing echo chambers that generate more hate and divide our society.

In the relentless pursuit of clicks, much of traditional media has fueled and catered to those polarized extremes, as they believe that is what brings in the money, but, in doing so, the opportunity for dialogue is lost.

That is why I bought Twitter. I didn’t do it because it would be easy. I didn’t do it to make more money. I did it to try to help humanity, whom I love. And I do so with humility, recognizing that failure in pursuing this goal, despite our best efforts, is a very real possibility.

That said, Twitter obviously cannot become a free-for-all hellscape, where anything can be said with no consequences! In addition to adhering to the laws of the land, our platform must be warm and welcoming to all, where you can choose your desired experience according to your preferences, just as you can choose, for example, to see movies or play video games ranging from all ages to mature.

l also very much believe that advertising, when done right, can delight, entertain and inform you; it can show you a service or product or medical treatment that you never knew existed, but is right for you. For this to be true, it is essential to show Twitter users advertising that is as relevant as possible to their needs. Low relevancy ads are spam, but highly relevant ads are actually content!

Fundamentally, Twitter aspires to be the most respected advertising platform in the world that strengthens your brand and grows your enterprise. To everyone who has partnered with us, I thank you. Let us build something extraordinary together.
