When you think the GOP couldn't get any worse: Donald Trump Jr and Ivanka Trump among top Republican picks for 2024.

Anyone know how this particular poll was structured? Seems like an odd result.

$80 million bounty placed on Donald Trumps head

This seems overstated. This seems to be a random protest chant rather than any kind of government stuff.

Above one an attempt to Kidnap a British journalist was thwarted.

This one seems related to an Iran oriented channel coverage of the earlier massive Iran fuel price protests.

The New York Times - Iran Uncertainty Grips Congress as Impeachment Looms

President Trump’s decision to strike a top Iranian general has upended Congress’s priorities, thrusting matters of war and peace into the spotlight.

today

WASHINGTON - President Trump’s abrupt decision to kill Iran’s top security commander has reshuffled the already fraught political dynamic around impeachment and thrust matters of war and peace into the middle of an election-year debate over whether to remove Mr. Trump from office. ...

The unexpected turn of events has added a volatile new element to the pitched fight over Mr. Trump’s impeachment trial in the Senate.

For Republicans, the killing of Maj. Gen. Qassim Suleimani fueled a new line of defense of the president, as they argued that Democrats’ effort to oust Mr. Trump while he tended to matters of national security was irresponsible.

“Think of the contrast,” Representative Kevin McCarthy of California, the top House Republican, wrote on Twitter on Sunday. “While Democrats are trying to remove President Trump from office, the President is focused on removing terrorists from the face of the earth.” ...

Many [Democrats] have charged that Mr. Trump authorized the strike precisely to distract attention from the charges at the center of his impeachment. ...

Whether Trump is at war with Iran or not, he is definitely at war with Congress. Let us hope that Congress wins!

First paragraph in Presidents/Prime Ministers instruction manual:

If in trouble domestically start a war that you know you can win with an enemy that's different from your electorate either ethnically, religiously or morally.

The New York Times - Bolton Is Willing to Testify in Trump Impeachment Trial, Raising Pressure for Witnesses

Jan. 6, 2020

WASHINGTON - John R. Bolton, the former White House national security adviser, said on Monday that he was willing to testify at President Trump’s impeachment trial, putting new pressure on Republicans to call witnesses and raising the possibility of revelations as the Senate weighs Mr. Trump’s removal.

Mr. Bolton’s surprise declaration, in a statement on his website, was a dramatic turn that could alter the political dynamic of the impeachment process in the Senate and raise the risks for Mr. Trump of Republican defections.

The former national security adviser is a potentially vital witness, with direct knowledge of presidential actions and conversations regarding Ukraine that could fill in blanks in the narrative of the impeachment case. ...

The New York Times - The Nightmare Stage of Trump’s Rule Is Here

Unstable and impeached, the president pushes the U.S. toward war with Iran.

Jan. 6, 2020

There are no more adults in the room.

After three harrowing years, we’ve reached the point many of us feared from the moment Donald Trump was elected.

His decision to kill Maj. Gen. Qassim Suleimani, Iran’s second most important official, made at Mar-a-Lago with little discernible deliberation, has brought the United States to the brink of a devastating new conflict in the Middle East. ...

Unlike with North Korea, it’s difficult to imagine any photo op or exchange of love letters defusing the crisis the president has created.

Most of this country has never accepted Trump, but over the past three years, many have gotten used to him, lulled into uneasy complacency by an establishment that has too often failed to treat him as a walking national emergency.

Now the nightmare phase of the Trump presidency is here.

The biggest surprise is that it took so long.

At least 35 people have died during a stampede at the funeral for Soleimani, which will no doubt make the people even more angry with the USA and Trumpy.

SaltyNZ:

Other sources are also reporting the $80 million bounty, but I have to say it doesn't seem likely Iran could hit the White House. Even less likely they would try - that sounds like a move guaranteed to get them a nuke in response with Trump in charge.

The Iranian government doesn't want Trump re-elected, and they're clever enough to know any assassination attempt would help the Republicans, and hurt the slightly more reasonable Democrats.

Iran would probably put a bullet in the head of anyone attempting to claim the bounty. It would be a clear link to Iran, and likely cause thousands of Iranian deaths.

More likely they'll try to shut down a power grid, or mess with various critical web sites, than assassination.

Any vagueness linking the actions to Iran would be considered a win.

Iran has opted to retaliate, which I believe they have an international right to do. US now say they will retaliate. Im not sure if thats grammatically possible as it was the US that attacked first, so only who they attacked can retaliate. Although the US said Iran isnt allowed to retaliate
