Although not relevant were Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak actually convicted of crimes?

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Yabanize:

Why isnt he allowed to put money into a party he started? He also put 600k into a fireworks display in Auckland a few years ago, Last years Rythem and vines fireworks, Also put money into christchurch earthquake and 50k or something in to christchurch earthquake appeal

As for convictions: When applying for residency, Dotcom openly stated he had convictions from his teens and 20s for insider trading and computer hacking. The convictions no longer exist - they were wiped from Germany's system under a similar law to our "clean slate" legislation.

The trial about megaupload and piracy is still ongoing

Have you also bought his album?

No, But I plan to, Even though its available to download free from his site, baboom. The idea is that the artists should make their music available for free and you should only pay for it if you like it

Huh? My understanding is that this is (possibly, ie set up for it to be) a time-limited deal, so neither of these parties is 'defunct' in that sense. After that date it's feasible both parties will continue to exist in their own right. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong (not an invitation I guess I need to make on this site!).

nathan: does anyone really think this multi-millionaire convicted criminal would be donating $3.25M to his Internet Party if he wasn't facing extradition

Of course the convictions still exist, they just don't have to be declared under German law. Yes, he put lots of money forward...tainted money - let's not gloss over how he obtained it in the first place. Wired have a reasonably good reference article.

It has not been proven that it is 'tainted money', That is just allegations from the USA Record and Movie industry. If you take a look at http://torrentfreak.com you will see all the other rubbish they are trying to do. Its quite sad how they are trying to freeze all of his assets so he cant defend himself, and also not let him see the evidence they have against him so him and his legal team can build a defence. All cloud storage services have been used for piracy, They just decided to pick on him because he was the biggest despite them honouring the takedown requests required by the law and going above and beyond that to try and keep the MPAA happy. This is why I believe he will win the case.

Innocent until proven guilty.

You'd think an innocent man would be keen as to get in front of the court ASAP rather than spending millions to stay out of court and drag the whole thing out

solaybro: Since they are focusing hugely on the internet and how much it costs to customers I thought I would ask people here what your opinion is on them and their policies. They mostly want to cut the price of internet connections in half and provide a a certain amount of data for free. I would be interested to see what the users here who work for ISPs have to say.

Share your view on the IP policies.

They aint going anywhere near my network.
About 20% of the retail cost goes into actually buying upstream data.
So if someone were to say to me
"cut your retail price by 50% because your upstream cost is going to be cut by 50% it will all work out"
well it wont because we pay huge fees for things like running vehicles, quad bikes, high site land leases etc which make up more of our expenses than actual data.

Honestly I havent really been following them, but my last semi-informed opinion is this
Hone Halfwit has nothing ideologically common with the internet party.

Getting back to the original question: I think the internet party is an extension of the Big Man's, big ego, continuing to play gullible kiwis like a fiddle.

The fact that they are canabilising the green vote speaks of the impressionability of the people the greens have been attracting up to now.

Cozying up to another party was their only hope to get anyone into parliament. The threshold was set at 5% specifically to keep the mischievous out of politics.

Mana, being the most ironically name party ever, was the only one with low enough integrity to consider courting them. That fact that Sue Bradford quit over it has lifted my formerly low opinion of her. Wisdom has come with age to her.

Anything else the Record and Movie industry is trying to do has no bearing on whether Dotcom is guilty or not.

Two wrongs make a right isn't a legal principle.
