The current Govt is reactionary, and they believe in allowing the market to rule. So the globe and the and the NZ markets rule. Not a lot to manage there, its being self managed.

LOL. This is a classic.

Childish. If you cannot understand, ask. If your a standard voter who does not look past red or blue, also ask. As per my following post, your vote doesnt actually count.

You need to learn to discuss. I don't know how many times you have been told, and over how many threads.

Pray tell, who do I normally vote for?

OK I'm asking. Please explain your quote above.

You know what I mean. If the same people every election (and doesnt have to be the same number in each party to cancel each other out), then every election has the same fixed voters. The rest of the voters are voters who can change their vote, they are voting on performance or lack of it

It may well be that 80% vote with blind loyalty, lets say they vote 53% Nats and 47% Labour/Greens. That's fixed. The remaining 20% of the voting population can change. I take that 80% as null voters as each election, nothing changes.

I honestly don't know what you mean.

I understand you are saying that there is a large amount of votes that are the same year after year and don't change, regardless of performance or policy. But I don't understand how these could be considered null. If all the loyalty votes were omitted, elections results could be vastly different. Surely they would only be "null" if their omission would cause no change in outcome.

Mathematically they could only cancel each other out if every party's loyalty based party votes were numerically the same.

I mean null as in no effect.

Let's agree to disagree in this one, because I think they most certainly do have an effect.

Given that Labour has made a decision and the leader is known this thread has run its course and deserves its rest.

Agree

Maybe a thread on JA, what might happen to Labours numbers, and how it may affect the election results

I am going to say that the same 10-15 people will come in and express all the same opinions listed here and the thread will run 10-20 pages and then be locked, and we will start all over again :)

It will yep. What I would be saying is bi partisan, I would assess the pluses and minuses of her appointment, and what I feel the effect in Sept will be, irregardless of what I want. I dunno what I want in any case, yet

If I may, I would say that the point you were trying to make, which people didn't seem to get, is that those like Geektastic who say they will always vote for the same party regardless, are not making a decision based on current reality or changed circumstances. In that sense the vote is just a reflex, not a decision made after weighing different aspects. Then it becomes just a numbers game, how many mindless voters on one side as opposed to how many on the other. Those who change their vote on the basis of policy announcements actually think about it and are therefore making a conscious decision. They have the potential to sway elections because their votes are based on what the different parties actually do.

I hope you are not suggesting that those people who have voted the same party for 10 elections are mindless? That is an outrageous claim made with little to back it up other than your own prejudices.

Maybe mindless isn't the best word. But it holds true. We should all be voting based on the leader, the team, the policies, will they actually carry through on these policies, and topical current issues and so on. If a voter decides to vote for Party X for the next 10 elections, thats all out the door. So, the election is down to only the voters who vote for real reasons each time. As they can change their choice and affect the result. The fixed voters are the same numbers every election, no change. Plus, and assuming the fixed vote is a high percentage, very few are voting for the right reasons, they are voting as a habit.

Now you are just searching for things to be insulted by. Obviously if they voted for the same party because they listened to what that party had to say and made a decision based on that to continuing supporting the party, then there is nothing mindless about their decision. If, as Geektastic stated several posts ago, and some others have implied, that they would always vote for that same party indefinitely into the future regardless of any other circumstance, then I would call that fairly mindless.

Just because I voted National for x number of elections does not mean I didn't do all of those equations. I, however, reserve the right to hold different views, to prioritise things differently and to want a different outcome to someone else who voted National, Labour or the Greens.

When I refer to I am saying the collective I, not myself personally.

I really like how you find things I've said to you in prior discussions and throw them back at me later. Unfortunately, in this instance, it's not the same situation. You made sweeping generalised assumptions comments that were very insulting.

I do not believe that Geektastic has said he would vote for National regardless. I would vote for Labour *next* election if they can show stability and consistency in opposition and policy that appeals to me, that I believe is in the best interest of NZ'rs in general, if National wasn't doing the same.

He did actually, didn't mention National though. But this is getting a bit off track, and wasn't meant to inflame anyone, to me, it was just a point of note that not all of us, and its probably a very high % for all parties, don't vote for the right reasons. My point was to be that it makes discussing politics difficult, if some are permanently aligned to one flavour, thats all.

Me, in the early days I have voted Labour once, Greens a couple of times, more of a disenchantment vote, other than that its been all National.
