Why right-wing conservatives extremists love Trump...

Sums it up perfectly.

Sadly, the US are now at a stage where things don't improve from here. The only unknown is how long the time period until the country descends into total dysfunction.

"'Pathetic': Trump's blast at Dr. Birx for truth-telling on pandemic"

Newsday

Birx appeared on CNN and stepped on a Trump tripwire by offering a more somber outlook than the president promulgates. Birx said the pandemic was entering a new, dangerous phase. "What we are seeing today is different from March and April. It is extraordinarily widespread," she said, adding that the pandemic was affecting both urban and rural areas.

For Trump, that stance was indefensible. He ripped her on Twitter on Monday morning with harsher language than what he uses against Dr. Anthony Fauci, who more commonly contradicts him. Trump wrote, "In order to counter Nancy, Deborah took the bait & hit us. Pathetic!"

Fires, hurricanes, Trump, if the locusts from Africa make it across the Atlantic then they're into the Biblical Revelations.

The Washington Post - The wheels are coming off Trump’s spin machine

today

Campaigns and White Houses always seek “message discipline,” the state of having everyone repeat the same carefully chosen phrases and arguments over and over to pound their ideas through the skulls of the electorate.

It’s something the Trump campaign and the Trump administration have never achieved, for a few reasons:

  • First, as a group, the people who work for President Trump are not particularly smart or skilled at politics.

  • Second, because they work for Trump, they are often called upon to defend the indefensible, whether it’s disastrous negligence, shocking corruption or farcical lies
  • And third, Trump is so erratic and self-contradictory that it can be almost impossible for them to keep track of which brand of lickspittlery they’re supposed to perform at any given moment. ...

... what we’re seeing now is a chaotic stew of fantasy and lies in which brief eruptions of candor from administration officials are quickly punished, but not before they highlight how ludicrous the prevailing line of spin is.

And behind the spin is a reality of horror.

But with each passing day, the spin is less capable of distracting from that reality.

Nobody likes me,” the president recently moaned. He may be on to something.

The Washington Post - The 5-Minute Fix (newsletter)

today

Less than three months before the election, President Trump has solidified an approach to the coronavirus: only focus on the good news, deny the bad news. ...

Reality hasn’t changed his strategy:

(headings only)

  1. He continues to claim the U.S. death rate is lower than that of most other countries.

  2. He says [COVID-19] is under control.

  3. He lashes out at any public health official who calls it like it is.

  4. He leans hard on conspiracy theories designed to undermine modern medicine and science.

There was no "Trump derangement syndrome": We were right about him all along

Do you remember "Trump Derangement Syndrome?"

It was a cute phrase that likely first appeared in 2015, deployed by prominent voices across the political spectrum to demean, mock, reject, dismiss and deflect the warnings that Donald Trump was a fascist, an authoritarian and a white supremacist, not to mention a vile and dangerous human being with apparent mental pathologies who posed a massive threat to American democracy.

Not Trump-specific but interesting nonetheless, How the Pandemic Defeated America.

SARS‑CoV‑2 is something of an anti-Goldilocks virus: just bad enough in every way. Its symptoms can be severe enough to kill millions but are often mild enough to allow infections to move undetected through a population. It spreads quickly enough to overload hospitals, but slowly enough that statistics don’t spike until too late. These traits made the virus harder to control, but they also softened the pandemic’s punch. SARS‑CoV‑2 is neither as lethal as some other coronaviruses, such as SARS and MERS, nor as contagious as measles. Deadlier pathogens almost certainly exist. Wild animals harbor an estimated 40,000 unknown viruses, a quarter of which could potentially jump into humans. How will the U.S. fare when “we can’t even deal with a starter pandemic?,” Zeynep Tufekci, a sociologist at the University of North Carolina and an Atlantic contributing writer, asked me.

This could be interesting.

Deutsche Bank have finally turned over the Trump files subpoenaed by the NY DA.

"In court filings this week, the Manhattan lawyers said they were investigating possible bank and insurance fraud, referencing “public reports of possibly extensive and protracted criminal conduct at the Trump Organization."

Now this - a "Major National Announcement":

I can see the outcome here. The Org did nothing wrong or Trump knows nothing about it and someone takes the blame and Trump has nothing to do with it.

BBC News - Facebook removes Trump's 'Covid misinformation' post

today

Facebook says it has removed a post from US President Donald Trump's page because it contained false claims about the coronavirus.

The clip was from an interview the president gave to Fox News earlier on Wednesday in which he said children were "almost immune" to Covid-19.

Facebook said the post violated its rules around "harmful Covid misinformation".

It is not the first time Facebook has struck content from Mr Trump's page.

A Facebook spokesperson told US media on Wednesday evening: "This video includes false claims that a group of people is immune from COVID-19 which is a violation of our policies around harmful COVID misinformation." ...
