Trump hasn't really expanded his base that much though, has he? In fact I don't even think he's really tried to. It may not be enough to get him over the line this time.

Batman: If it's one person you could say that. But I dare say enough of them around to give Trump another term such that that statement becomes irrelevant if Trump gets a second term.

It's not "irrelevant" at all.  I'm just surprised you've got such stupid friends.

Xi?  I think a Russian man said the same.

You can tell the Russian version, it includes extra text about being close enough to stab.

The Washington Post - The Trump administration imposes yet another arbitrary, absurd modification to the immigration system

today

Last fall, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services introduced perhaps its most arbitrary, absurd modification yet to the immigration system: It began rejecting applications unless every single field was filled in, even those that obviously did not pertain to the applicant.

“Middle name” field left blank because the applicant does not have a middle name? Sorry, your application gets rejected.

No apartment number because you live in a house? You’re rejected, too.

No address given for your parents because they’re dead? No siblings named because you’re an only child? No work history dates because you’re an 8-year-old kid?

All real cases, all rejected.

President Trump’s “wall” has been built not of steel or concrete but of paperwork and red tape. ...

Seriously, who would even want to immigrate to there or even visit, with the way things are in the USA? I sure wouldn't.

CBS News: Trump "optimistic" about COVID-19 vaccine around Election Day, says it "wouldn't hurt" him against Biden

President Trump says he's "optimistic" that a vaccine will be ready around Election Day, and it "wouldn't hurt" his chances against former Vice President Joe Biden. But having a vaccine available for widespread public use before 2021 is unrealistic, according to public health experts, including the Coronavirus Task Force's Dr. Anthony Fauci.

Mr. Trump told Geraldo Rivera's radio program "Geraldo in Cleveland," on WTAM, Thursday that a vaccine could "in some cases" be ready sooner than November 3, but "right around that time." Asked about this on the White House South Lawn a couple hours later, the president said he's "optimistic" about a vaccine being ready around that date.

"I'm optimistic that it'll be probably around that date. I believe we'll have the vaccine before the end of the year, certainly, but around that date, yes, I think so," Mr. Trump said.

Asked if that would help him in his race against Biden, the president responded: "It wouldn't hurt, it wouldn't hurt, but I'm doing it not for the election. I want it fast because I want to save a lot of lives."

There are vaccines that are in later stages of clinical trials. Fauci told a House panel last month he's "cautiously optimistic" the U.S. could have a vaccine that could work by "late fall or early winter."

But even with the unprecedented focus of the scientific community on a vaccine, widespread availability of such a vaccine isn't expected until 2021. And a vaccine has to be proven safe and effective first.

If it has stabilised it may be because Joe Biden is such a terrible candidate. Biden is comfortably ahead in polls but it’s more anti Donald Trump sentiment than enthusiasm for Joe Biden.

Agreed; I'm not too enthused about Joe, but I guess I come under the "anyone but Trump" category.

I wish it wasn't true, but nobody running with an agenda to make significant change to America's failing plutocracy is going to convince any of the Trumpists to change their minds, and plenty of Democrats would be alienated by anything that looked like "socialism", and neither would Republicans unhappy with the blatant corruption, nepotism, and incompetence of the Trump regime vote for a "socialist".

Biden's only "merely" the lesser of two evils - if you underestimate Trump's true evil.

The New York Times - Opinion - Coming Next: The Greater Recession

The suspension of federal benefits would create damage almost as terrifying as the economic effects of the coronavirus.

Aug. 6, 2020

One pretty good forecasting rule for the coronavirus era has been to take whatever Trump administration officials are saying, and assume that the opposite will happen.

When President Trump declared in February that the number of cases would soon go close to zero, you knew that a huge pandemic was coming.

When Vice President Mike Pence insisted in mid-June that “there isn’t a coronavirus ‘second wave,’” a giant surge in new cases and deaths was clearly imminent.

And when Larry Kudlow, the administration’s chief economist, declared just last week that a “V-shaped recovery” was still on track, it was predictable that the economy would stall. ...

The 2008 financial crisis and the sluggish recovery that followed weren’t that long ago, and they taught us valuable lessons directly relevant to our current plight.

Above all, experience in that slump demonstrated both that economic depressions are no time to obsess over debt and that slashing spending in the face of mass unemployment is a terrible mistake.

But nobody in the White House or on the G.O.P. side of Capitol Hill seems to have learned anything from that experience.

In fact, not having learned anything from the last crisis almost seems to be a requirement for Republican economic advisers.

So at the moment we seem to be headed for a Greater Recession - a worse slump than 2007-2009, overlaid on the coronavirus slump.

MAGA!

Fred99: ... The suit accuses the N.R.A. and the executives of “violating numerous state and federal laws” by enriching themselves, as well as their friends, families and allies, and taking improper actions that cost the organization $64 million over three years.

The attorney general has regulatory authority over the N.R.A. because it is chartered as a nonprofit in New York.
