dafman: Did the US just vote out after a single term the greatest President ever (with exception of, maybe, Abraham Lincoln)?

God issued a recall on the gift he'd given to evangelicals.

Paul1977: rikkitic I wasn’t wanting to start a discussion about a member who can’t post, as that would be unfair to him. It was just he had been mentioned a few times since being blocked and is presumably still reading the thread so just wanted to post that I at least had valued his input.

We differ in our views, but in fairness to nathan we should leave it at that.

In many ways, that's exactly what the Americans were left with. Not all wanted to vote Biden, they didn't vote in Biden, they voted out Trump.

Now Biden is given the mandate to do what he has said he's do, and they do it all again in 4 years. 4 years is a long time. 3 years ago NZ voted National > Labour and now the opposite big time. But as of Nov 3, that was the sentiment. I'm seeing people are embracing the President they didn't want, but one that they did need.

Rikkitic:

I just spotted a tweet that people are 'ritualistically stomping on Cheetos' to celebrate the result. For those who don't know, Cheetos are a horrible, addictive American snack food made up of crunchy, cheese-flavoured bites that are covered in orange crumbs that shed everywhere and turn things exactly the colour of Trump's complexion. Anyone who has been eating Cheetos you can immediately spot from the sickly orange glow around their mouth.

I had some Cheetos yesterday... meh, I prefer Rashuns.

It will be interesting to see how "Trumpism" pans out. That portion of the American population has been acknowledged and activated. It appears Lindsay Graham, Ted Cruz and some others may try to follow a similar path

Also remember 70million people voted for Trump, much more than voted for him the first time round, after they knew exactly how he would be as president

If they can tie the senate, thus giving Harris the tie-breaker vote, and then hopefully a majority in 2022 then perhaps changes can be made without Republicans blocking everything.

But it will still require the Democrats to be brave enough to make the changes that are needed.

Watch this space.

The only thing Trump has said that has any basis in reality to it is questioning the polls which were so massively off - not a small issue given how much weighting the Americans give their polling. They were massively wrong in some stages - Texas and Florida; so I understand him questioning the effect these may have had and what might have been behind them. Personally, I think that deserves some explanation as well

Other than that, every single word he has said outside of that one point has been unmitigated garbage and falsehoods.

I get such joy from going to his Facebook post about "I won that election!" and seeing Facebook's rider of "Joe Biden is the projected winner of the 2020 Presidential Election" and knowing there's not a thing that he can do about it.

Trump going absolutely ballistic on his Twitter feed...doing exactly what I said he would do for months.

He can ask for all the recounts in the world, but the margins are far too high for that to be valid, right? 2000 was a different scenario.

LOL.  He's toggled the shouting key on.  What a loser.

I flicked over to fox news shortly after that tweet, and I can’t believe they are supporting him, so unprofessional of a news network

As a lame duck now he can still do some massive damage and wields a hell of a lot of power.

Plenty of executive orders he could try and put out.

He will just be a prick about the whole thing.

I know it has not been tested but he could pardon himself.

The Democrats, with the help of many patriotic Republicans, have made all the changes that are necessary for the moment.

Even if Biden's stewardship does little more in the next four years than repair the damage caused by Trump, America will still be ahead.
