SJB:

Excellent article from the BBC's correspondent Nick Bryant about why he thinks Chump lost. Bryant has written some great articles on America and Chump in the last 4 years.

Excellent, well said.

To be fair, Biden was a pretty weak candidate to go up against Trump, yet he still won. I think if Covid hadn't hit, then Trump would have got back in relatively easily, solely because the economy was going quite well, and he had done a lot what he said he was going to do. I don't think Biden would have had much of a chance. I mean he is hardly a young inspirational leader like Obama. But I think Biden will be a good president to get them though the tough times, and they need the empathy. Trumps speech was all about him...me me me. Where as Bidens was all about the people.

I wonder what is going to happen to the wall?

The worst thing IMO will be the Trumps having another go for president in 2024.

I also wouldn't be surprised if Twitter bans Trumps account. I wonder how many warnings he has had. A normal person woud have just had their account terminated by now.

Eric could be one but Ivanka is more likely - "The First Woman President. We can do it!"

I’d like to think the Republicans will drop Trump like a bad habit and wouldn’t even consider allowing him to run as a Republican in 2024.

I’d also like to think they’d recognise Don Jr as being as equally unstable as his father.

A potentially smart move by the Republicans could be Ivanka. From what I can tell she’s more stable and intelligent than her father. Despite being a woman, she may appeal to the Trumpists; and she would have to be far more palatable to the Republican party than her father ever was.

But I personally hope we never see the name Trump in politics again.

EDIT: @freitasm beat me to it

If you ever drop into Breitbart to see what the nutters are talking about you'll find they hate Ivanka and her husband.

Don Jr is the best bet for 2024.

+1

I have being following Donald Senior's gangster/conman/showman "career" for 50 years, despising him more with each passing year.

Donald Junior truly is his father's son.

That is not a compliment.   😕

Brietbart was made for Donald Junior.  Or vice versa?

Scum rises to the top of the swamp.

Why the hate? I would have thought anything/anyone with the name Trump over there would have been like Midas was to gold.

Anyway, lawsuits to be files left right and center tomorrow according to Trump ... I don't want to be too certain of his outcome until it's certain ...

Yeah, yeah. Might get a few hundred or some votes one way or another. But won't change the results. Also they won't be able to go around five or six states - apparently the campaign has no more funds... And lawyers don't work for free.

Rudy must be working pro bono, surely?

I just love these fanatical christian republicans. They said Trump was god's choice to be president and he was gonna be re-elected. Now that he hasn't got a second term, it was because the democrats cheated and rigged the election. So that means god almighty wasn't powerful enough to stop the cheating and rigging.

I wont criticise Republicans. Its like saying National supporters in NZ are idiots. MOST people are good, MOST politicians want to do good. Centre Right and Centre Left is no issue, idiots are. Trump is the latest idiot. If we need to rate Trump as a POTUS, A = excellent E = poor, he is a J, simple as that. An anomaly, and he is done.

Excellent speech by Kamala Harris. Joe Biden also okay. Overall a very positive start.

Other way round I thought. Excellent Biden, OK from Harris. Agree with the positive start.

Makes a refreshing change to have someone who can put a complete sentence together without stumbling along.

I thought both were great. No script. Trump the other day read his speech, his eyes never got off it, and it was is words. Heart vs Ego, sorted

I wonder if Biden will keep on  Fauci.

It is my hope that Biden will keep Fauci and other capable people on, and it would also be a wonderful gesture if he offered those unfairly dismissed by Trump, like Colonel Vindeman, their jobs back.

Agree, and that's not a wonderful decision, its a bog standard normal decision, by normal people. The latter three words are all the humanity wants.

Fred99:

Parts of Biden's speech I didn't like were the religious bits.  I know he has to cater to the (US) Christian majority, but surely the first amendment should guarantee freedom from religion - not just freedom of religion.  Believe what you you want, but shut the hell up if you're talking to me and expect me to abide by some religious doctrine telling me how I should behave.

As an atheist - I get really p*ssed off when politicians push fairy tales.

I get that, but Americans are that way inclined. And VERY patriotic. I used to go there for 4-5 weeks every year, lived as/with a citizen not as a tourist. The patriotism really impressed me, reminded me when I was kid here in NZ. If they want to be religious/I payed for this, as is common, I'm ok with that.

Agree, and also requires some evidence. Democrats biased news channels can't see that, neither can Republican news channels. The Trump news channels could though but they have "flipped"

The news of lock Hillary up and build the wall seem so long ago now. Its back to normal/sensible, the history books can record the former

I seem to remember it might be that the Breitbarters thought Ivanka and husband conspired against Steve Bannon, finally to get him sacked by Chump.
