Mike Pompeo says there will be a ‘smooth transition to second Trump administration’

This!

Referring to my earlier post which said this"

Ok, I'm getting a wee bit worried now.

A few days ago it looked like the GOP were cutting him loose, today they are starting to rally around him.

Trump's purposely constructed voter fraud conspiracy may get legs. If it does, irrationality could take over and this could get very ugly.

I'd suggest you go and watch the actual video rather than relying on the press.

When he referred to a second Trump administration it seemed fairly clear to me that it was a joke. He also then went onto say that the state department would follow the constitutional process that is set down.

Mike "politics is a never-ending struggle until the Rapture" Pompeo is filthy and possibly treasonous piece of scum whose personal beliefs - amongst other things - are that raped women should be forced to carry a resulting pregnancy to term.

He's not capable of "making a joke". That was arrogant cynical mocking of people with legitimate concerns about matters that have been - and continue to be - verbalised by his leader - the most powerful man in the world.

Pompeo has clarified on Fox that there will be a smooth transition to whoever wins the election.

That's your interpretation, it seems clear to me that he is capable of making a joke. The rest of his remarks were completely reasonable and clear that the state department would follow due process.

In the news: actions have consequences. Ben Carson is particularly at risk, since he's 69 and black. Being black in the United States increases your risk factors by 2.6 X.

New York Times: Another White House official tests positive after attending an election night event.

Another person who attended an election night event at the White House has tested positive for the coronavirus. The latest person is the White House political director, Brian Jack, according to two people familiar with the diagnosis on Wednesday.

Mr. Jack tested positive over the weekend, one of the people said.

The other three people who tested positive after attending the election night event at the White House are
  • Mark Meadows, Mr. Trump’s chief of staff
  • Ben Carson, the housing secretary
  • David Bossie, an adviser to Mr. Trump.
Several hundred people gathered at the event in the East Room for several hours, many of them not wearing masks as they mingled and watched election returns.

Another West Wing aide also tested positive, the two people said, but it was unclear when the other official did so and whether the official attended the election night party.

If you like lists, this is a good one.

The following is extracted from a long and detailed article, unfortunately behind a paywall. Highly recommended.

The Washington Post - The Abnormal Presidency

10 Nov 2020

Trump dramatically changed the presidency.

Here’s a list of the 20 most important norms he broke -  (headings only)

01. Personally profiting from official business
02. Not releasing tax returns
03. Refusing oversight
04. Interfering in Department of Justice investigations
05. Abusing appointment power
06. Insulting allies while cozying up to authoritarians
07. Coarsening presidential discourse
08. Politicizing the military
09. Attacking judges
10. Politicizing diplomacy and foreign policy
11. Undermining intelligence agencies
12. Publicizing lists of potential Supreme Court picks
13. Making far more false or misleading claims than any previous president
14. Abusing the pardon power
15. Using government resources for partisan ends
16. Making racialized appeals and attacks
17. Dividing the nation in times of crisis
18. Contradicting scientists
19. Derailing the tradition of presidential debates
20. Undermining faith in the 2020 election results

Unfortunately, Trump currently seems to be doing frighteningly well at obstructing a smooth handover.

The Washington Post - Mississippi Republican calls for his state to ‘succeed from the union’ after Biden victory

November 12, 2020

As the dust settles from the 2020 presidential election, one disappointed Mississippi lawmaker has a proposition for the Magnolia State.

Instead of being governed by President-elect Joe Biden, state Rep. Price Wallace (R) reportedly said on Twitter that Mississippi should “succeed” from the rest of the United States and form its own country.

Despite the misspelling, his since-deleted tweet on Saturday afternoon, posted hours after the election was called for Biden, appeared to be an overt throwback to the Confederacy - in a part of the Deep South that only voted to remove the Confederate battle flag symbol from its own state flag earlier this year. ...

Thanks for the info. Provides some useful perspective on this powerful Trump crony.

In a state where everyone marries their cousins, it is not surprising that literacy is a challenge. If Mississippi did secede, it most certainly would not succeed. Most politicians there rely on black labour to tie their shoes.

A lot of days between now and then. And if Trump cries foul right until the end (spoiler - he will) it's going to be an exhausting month for the American people.

Trump lawyers suffer embarrassing rebukes from judges over voter fraud claims
https://www.stuff.co.nz/world/americas/300156519/trump-lawyers-suffer-embarrassing-rebukes-from-judges-over-voter-fraud-claims

""
Another of the Trump teams' claims crumbled rather quickly in Georgia.

In Chatham County, as in Michigan, the Trump campaign cited supposed evidence that 53 late ballots might have been predated so they could be counted.
Except two witnesses they called acknowledged under oath that they didn't know whether the ballots were received after the deadline.
And two others for the local board of elections testified that they were, in fact, received on time.
""

Then there was the admission that there was after repeated inquiry by judge admission there were 'a non zero number of observers'.
The case where the claim was there were no observers.
Lawyers dancing around avoiding having to state the fact there were 12 Republican Observers to 5 Democrat, and later after negotiation 60 were allowed.

Plus a bunch more of other cases bought on similar levels of 'evidence'

My evidence is there is no evidence.
