Asia forms world's biggest trade bloc, a China-backed group excluding U.S.

Fifteen Asia-Pacific economies formed the world's largest free trade bloc on Sunday, a China-backed deal that excludes the United States, which had left a rival Asia-Pacific grouping under President Donald Trump.

Looks like the US is getting exactly what Trump asked for. I guess they can still trade with Mexico, given that the wall hasn't been built yet.

The Washington Post - Trump tunes out pandemic surge as he focuses on denying election loss

15 Nov 2020

Since Election Day and for weeks prior, Trump has all but ceased to actively manage the deadly pandemic, which so far has killed at least 244,000 Americans, infected at least 10.9 million and choked the country’s economy.

The president has not attended a coronavirus task force meeting in “at least five months,” said one senior administration official ...

Now, as he fights for his political life, falsely claiming the election was somehow rigged against him, Trump has abdicated one of the central duties of the job he claims to want: leading the country through a devastating pandemic as it heads into a grim winter. ...

It also doesn't show the man who eventually got his head stomped initiating violence, then going postal, lashing out and belting women.  So don't get your knickers in a knot about "Antifa" initiating violence when you're looking at selected and edited video that was originally posted by The Daily Caller (a neofascist news organisation)

While that doesn't justify what eventually happened to him, don't kid yourself that "innocent" protester was beaten by angry mob.

(edit - posted still above before seeing that MF above had posted tweet including the video)

I think it did show him lashing out at others, including women. If not, then I'd already seen it. I don't think he was an "innocent protester", but as you say yourself - that's no justification.

It's interesting (but unsurprising) that those on the right only post the part of the video showing him getting punched then stomped. But the left only post the lead in and the punch and remove the part where his is stomped while on the ground.

So both sides manipulating the footage to some degrees to suit their favoured narrative.

I always thought Kellyanne 'alternative facts' Conway was unique in her ability to twist any argument without missing a beat, but after seeing Jenna Ellis on Bill Maher I have to admit that the Trump factory must have found a way to clone them. Who would have thought there could be two of these? There is something mesmerising in the way they are able to jump horses midstream without the slightest hesitation. It is like watching a top Olympics gymnast. You don't have to like what they say to admire the way they say it.

Bulls**t Barbie is simply not in the same league as Kellyanne. She has at least 1 less digit in her IQ.

Regarding the sucker punch, watch the first few seconds to see that the megaphone guy got hit this way first by a Trumper.

On a historic note, I highly recommend watching this David Kay Johnston interview, recorded prior to Trump's election.

If you don't watch the entire clip, please watch it as far as 5m 34s and if you don't go 'OMG!' at that point, you're either @nathan or one of his new clones :-)

He may have been agitating as much as anyone else - but the punch that took him down was a sucker punch from behind, and then others stomped him while he was down. Violence like that needs to be condemned regardless of which side it committed it, and it's far too easy to go down the road of "well, they started it".

EDIT: Just to note that the above "Full Video" is incomplete. It's doesn't show the man get his head stomped while he was on the ground, virtually unconscious.

Agree that violence of this kind is unacceptable regardless of who does it. Also strongly feel that Trump encourages and incites this crap regardless of political direction.

There is plenty of inciting of violence on both sides.

There's only one President inciting violence.

(Edit to say the violence that's been seen so far seems relatively minor, Proud Boys are a pretty small group of losers.  OTOH if violence breaks out in "open carry" states, then things could get very ugly.

Biden/Harris could also step up and call for calm - on twitter.  It's one thing dancing on the street to celebrate their election victory, rioting *for any reason* isn't going to achieve anything, and any violence by "antifa" or BLM protesters regardless of whether it's in self-defence or vastly outnumbered by incidents carried out by the far right, it will be used by fascists as propaganda against all liberals.)

Maybe so, but that goes back to "it's alright because he did it first".

This is interesting, in the section around the 2-4-minute point he's describing exactly what it's like to interact with someone with a cluster B personality disorder, of which narcissism is one. The rest sort of wanders all over the place and I stopped listening, but that section is illuminating.

This is inspired: The US far right likes to use manipulated images to support their conspiracy theories. So now someone's done this:

(For those who don't know, Parler is a right-wing echo chamber social media network and George Soros is a lightning rod for neo-nazi conspiracy theorists).

I'm not familiar with Parler or George Soros.

I did a quick Google search and found this.

I had heard that alt-right were creating new social media products, as they are sloooooowly pushed of Facebook and Twitter.

You're correct: Fox News is pushing a false news story.

------------------------

Vox: George Soros is not a Nazi, explained

Donald Trump Jr. suggested George Soros is a Nazi. That’s ridiculous.

Donald Trump Jr. is more than his father’s right-hand man — he’s his most important link to the conspiratorial far right.

He tweets constantly about the “deep state” to more than 2 million followers, continually sending them the signal: Trump hears you.

And as the 2018 election heats up, many of Trump Jr.’s tweets center on billionaire and longtime progressive donor George Soros. Specifically, they focus on a conspiracy theory regarding the Hungarian-born Jewish investor: that he’s a Nazi....

------------------------

Wired: Parler Games: Inside the Right's Favorite 'Free Speech' App

The top app on both Google and Apple's app stores this week promises conservatives a safe space—but gives priority treatment to its most high-profile users.

There are only two rules on Parler, the “free-speech” social network: First, nothing criminal. Second, no spam. Other than that, you can post what you want, the site advertises, “without fear of being ‘deplatformed’ for your views.”...
