You folks know the lawsuit the Texas AG started against other states' procedures trying to overturn their results?

Yeah, the FBI issued a subpoena to AG Ken Paxton, so he's possibly trying to get on Trump's good side and in return get a pardon...

And the Republican Party Swamp just keeps getting bigger, deeper and murkier.

FineWine: And the Republican Party Swamp just keeps getting bigger, deeper and murkier.

The Democrats and Republicans are more similar than dissimilar. Republicans are a smidge more wealthy, a smidge more uncaring.

For a worker whose on-the-job injury means they can no longer work, one will fire you, try to get as much of your pension cancelled, and get security to remove you from the building.

The other will do the same thing, but walk with the security guards and say "we wish you well in your next endeavor" as you're forcible ejected.

If you look at the top 10 wealthiest lawmakers in both houses, it's about evenly split.

OpenSecret: Majority of lawmakers in 116th Congress are millionaires

"Congress is an exclusive club. It’s also a wealthy one.

More than half of those in Congress are millionaires, data from lawmakers’ most recent personal financial disclosures shows. The median net worth of members of Congress who filed disclosures last year is just over $1 million. "

Also truly evil lawmakers know they'll be re-elected, with even accusations of collusion with foreign enemies and pedophilia likely to be over-looked

Wikipedia: Congressional stagnation in the United States

"In total, 98% of all incumbents were re-elected. Congressional elections are stagnant, and because of the high invincibility of House incumbents, very few districts are truly competitive, with elections shifting very few seats from one party to another."

Of course we can't toot our horn. Look for powerful and hard-to-remove Winston Peters got.

Enormous inertia built into the American government is a major contributor to the swamp.

NZ voters can remove the entire government every three years.

American voter needs a much longer attention span. President, Congress, Senate, State Congress, State Senate..

The Washington Post - Coronavirus Updates - White House threatens FDA chief over vaccine

today

President Trump's chief of staff has told Food and Drug Administration commissioner Stephen Hahn to resign unless the agency clears the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine by the end of today, putting political pressure on what is supposed to be a scientific process and potentially weakening public trust in the immunization program.

The threat, accompanied by a tweet from Trump attacking the FDA as a “slow turtle,” is also somewhat baffling because regulators were already on the cusp of authorizing the vaccine.

An advisory committee voted overwhelmingly to recommend the FDA do so on Thursday, and the agency announced early this morning that it had already informed Pfizer it would “rapidly work” toward authorization.

The important thing is apparently that Trump gets credit for pushing things along,” The Post's Aaron Blake wrote in an analysis, which warned that a quarter of Americans polled in one survey already doubt the vaccine's safety and efficacy.

Demanding that this happens now … is pretty much the opposite of what health officials want.” ...

Rikkitic:  CNN reporting that supreme court has rejected Texas lawsuit.

The headline says it all ...

The Washington Post - Supreme Court dismisses bid led by Texas attorney general to overturn the presidential election results, blocking Trump’s legal path to reverse his loss

breaking

The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a long-shot bid by President Trump and the state of Texas to overturn the results in four states won by Democrat Joe Biden, blocking the president’s legal path to reverse his reelection loss.

The court’s unsigned order was short: “Texas has not demonstrated a judicially cognizable interest in the manner in which another state conducts its elections. All other pending motions are dismissed as moot.” ...

Trump, who has appointed three of the court’s nine members, has long viewed the Supreme Court as something of an ace-in-the-hole, and called for the justices to display “courage” and rescue him in post-election litigation.

Anyone know what the count was?    I hope it was 9-0 against.   Especially by Trumps 3 conservative appointments, he is going to be so ropeable. That dummy/pacifier is going to be spat long and hard 😀

PS: His lawyers wont get their Presidential Pardons now.

No-one actually 'voted' against it, as such. Two of the conservative justices, not recent ones, stated that they thought the case should be heard as a matter of principle, but then rejected, if I understand correctly. Not sure I do.

EDIT  (updated quote)

The New York Times - Supreme Court Rejects Texas Suit Seeking to Subvert Election

breaking

Friday’s order was not quite unanimous.

Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr., joined by Justice Clarence Thomas, issued a brief statement on a technical point. *

But it was nonetheless a comprehensive rebuke to Mr. Trump and his allies.

It was plain that the justices had no patience for Texas’ attempt to enlist the court in an effort to tell other states how to run their elections.

The majority [7 of 9 justices] ruled that Texas could not file its lawsuit at all. ...

* Both of these conservative justices were nominated by President George W. Bush.   None of Trump's three "new" justices supported the lawsuit.

The spirit of pardons is they're supposed to be used sparingly, and because you can't be convicted of the same crime twice, " double jeopardy" The exception is bribing the judge. Also a military court and a civilian court can convict for the same crime twice.

Pardons should be treated gravely and not given out like prizes on a "You've Got Talent" TV show.

They say you become the thing you hate, and Trump has really taken America into the "sh_thole country" realm.

USA Today: Can Trump pardon himself? What's a preemptive pardon? Experts explain the sweeping power

...Generally, pardons are irreversible. Congress and courts can't reverse them, but a president can [revoke it himself, if he's quick and the pardon was unsigned]

Still, the Supreme Court has not tackled the question of when a pardon is no longer revocable...
