networkn:  And some of the comments here could have been pulled right from Trumps twitter feed. Honestly some of what is here is unhinged.

I visited @realDonaldTrump today out of curiosity, and soon wished that I hadn't.

I found the Donald in Wonderland environment profoundly disturbing.

It reminded me of when I was a medical student, visiting a psychiatric ward as part of my training - full of sad, deluded, sometimes "persecuted" people, who had lost contact with themselves, and with reality.

For the sake of my own mental health, I won't be going back soon.   🤨

Whenever I look at his Twitter feed, I've noticed he only posts (probably for attention), but I've never seen him respond to any comments, ever - be they in agreement or disagreement with him. It's like he just wants to say his piece and then walk away. Kinda like he does with his "media conferences", I guess.

Nah the party of Jim Crow and actual election fraud are the angels.

Talking of 8Chan - that disingenuous quote could be directly from some of the folks there.

What's disingenuous? Did I post anything inaccurate?

Well "the party of Jim Crow" is 19th century stuff, repealed under a democrat POTUS more than half a century ago.

It's kind of like saying xxxx party is the party of disallowing women the vote or in favour of public floggings, based on something in the distant past.

If you're trying to argue that in recent history the GOP is more liberal than the Democratic party - then you're dreaming.  Because they aren't.

Where on earth did I say that the republican party was more liberal than the democrats?

It'd be nice if you stopped the ad hominem stuff, it's pretty silly.

Both parties are highly problematic in the recent past. Neither are anywhere near what an ordinary New Zealander would call liberal.

It was actually 20th century stuff too. It wasn't until after WWII that things really started to change. While the repeal was done under a Democratic President in 1965, it actually required the support of Northern Republicans before it could be passed.

Perhaps I misunderstood the point of the post but it seems to me it was to show both the Democrats and the Republicans can be accused of "dodgy" politics. To suggest that it's only the Republicans who are capable of "dodgy" politics, as some people seem to be keen on doing, is being rather selective with history.

There's no "ad-hominem". Stating that the "both sides" are "problematic" is absurd false equivalence given the abject racist BS and support of neo-fascism by the Trump era GOP.

Maybe you should avoid reading things that upset you.

You may wish to read some of your own posts earlier in this thread when you were responding to something you disagreed with.  There's a lot of emotion in some of those.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

Since we're mostly in New Zealand, many Kiwis don't fully understand for Americans there are conversation equivalents to throwing a hand grenade into a room.

It may be OK to say in Auckland, you're going to bring the house down in Atlanta.

I'm a free-speech advocate; you can say anything you want, short of inciting violence or yelling "fire" in a crowded building.

Geekzone, like Facebook, Twitter, Parler, MeWe, Reddit, 8Chan are private organizations and can set any term of service they want. If an organization wants to ban someone using "it" in their posts, that's their right. Posts are not protected public speech.

I'm not trying to shame you, just educate everyone. Speaking of which, the oddly named "Southern Poverty Law Center" is the place for more informationAgain, you're free to sprinkle these into your conversation with Americans. Just don't be surprised at the reaction

I'm enjoying popcorn, while seeing a couple of posters excuse the GOP/Trump party 2017-2021 by stating that the present Democrat party is "just as bad".
