What I simply cannot get my head around is how people who clearly have intelligence and education (technical types) can still be so f-ing stupid! How can anyone with half a brain not see what Trump is really like? How can anyone still believe that Covid19 isn't real, or Trump is working hard for the people out on that golf course, or all those Republicans in all those states are part of some vast conspiracy to steal the election? What kind of noxious nerve agent is dumbing these people? I truly don't get it.

You are not American and you don't live there. I'm not surprised you don't get it. None of us do.

You could say the same about Russians supporting Putin or, from history, Germans supporting Hitler or the Khemer Rouge and some Cambodians.

Literally unbelievable.

But that's viewed from our perspective, we're citizens of a relatively sane culture that (mostly) still respects other peoples' views and the rule of law.

A culture with predominantly fair, intelligent governance and good education standards.

But average kiwis look just the same as average Americans. We're all homo sapiens with the same crazy mix of caring, compassionate, self destructive and homicidal tendencies.

So where's the difference? How did almost half of American voters attempt to re-elect a sociopathic, narcissistic fool that* doesn't even deserve the title of 'man'?

I don't know the answer. Perhaps a clue might be found if we ask ourselves, how far would Trump's political career have progressed in this country?

*Doesn't warrant 'who'.

Trump crowned? No faux King way!

After seeing the New Conservatives and Advance New Zealand parties support, I'd say a few New Zealanders would vote for him - not enough to make a dent now but wait for it.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

ANY incumbent in the US is practically guaranteed to be reelected.

Even though I love Obama, you could ask the same question: How did Obama get re-elected?

In the Senate, how does Mitch McConnel always get re-elected?

Governor Chris Christie left the New Jersey Governorship to run for president in 2016. Even though he had a 81% disapproval rating from New Jersey voters, I strongly suspect he would have been reelected to Governor, if he ran.

Fixed term limits for all politicians seem to be the only way to create new blood, and even that fails.

Several popular politicians, like infamous Alabama's George Wallace, had his wife run for one-term as Governor when term-limits kicked in. After her one-term, he was re-elected again.

I think the real question is how do you get money out of US political elections campaigns?

Trump & the Coronavirus

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO)

John Oliver takes a look at how the Trump administration has handled the coronavirus outbreak in the US, from lack of preparation, to mangled coordination, to harmful communication.

A brief read of the comments, one stood out in particular.

"Trump's entire presidency has felt like being tied to a chair watching a toddler play with a loaded gun"

Pretty well sums it up...

The Washington Post - Trump signs stimulus and government spending bill into law, averting shutdown

today

... The consequences of inaction would have been immense.

If the bill wasn’t signed into law by Tuesday, hundreds of thousands of federal employees would have been sent home without pay.

And even the many federal employees who would have continued to work because they are deemed “essential,” such as members of the military, would not have been paid until a new funding bill is authorized.

In addition to a government shutdown on Tuesday, eviction protections for millions of Americans would have lapsed later this week; more than 14 million people would be losing unemployment benefits; and no stimulus checks would be issued.

Failing to sign the bill into law would also freeze new money for vaccine distribution, small-business aid, the ailing airline industry, and school aid, among other things. ...

Another gem from the comments on "Trump & the Coronavirus"  ðŸ˜ :

"Trump got the full 2020 experience; he got Covid, he lost his job, and in a month, he'll be evicted."
