What's with Ted Cruz? 1 of 6 republicans who voted to sustain the Arizona objection. He hated Trump in the primaries, but now he's so far up Trump's ass he's polishing the back of his teeth.

Does he think Trump supporters will flock to his banner because he's shown loyalty?

What a slimy weasel.

Mayor Muriel Bowser just announced that she has extended Washington’s public emergency over today’s Capitol riots for 15 days – until after Joe Biden is inaugurated.

The declaration will allow the city to draw upon additional resources to protect residents, like enforcing curfews, expanding emergency services or distributing necessities.

This is another Rudy screw up - he called a senator and left a voice mail... On the wrong number.

I have heard the term "Trump extremists" used on the attack of the capitol today. Think it fits well.

Given the role of social media in today's attempted coup, some talk about section 230 in the US.

The Verge: Everything you need to know about Section 230, The most important law for online speech

Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, which was passed in 1996, says an “interactive computer service” can’t be treated as the publisher or speaker of third-party content. This protects websites from lawsuits if a user posts something illegal, although there are exceptions for copyright violations, sex work-related material, and violations of federal criminal law.

Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Rep. Chris Cox (R-CA) crafted Section 230 so website owners could moderate sites without worrying about legal liability. The law is particularly vital for social media networks, but it covers many sites and services, including news outlets with comment sections — like The Verge. The Electronic Frontier Foundation calls it “the most important law protecting internet speech.”

It’s increasingly controversial and frequently misinterpreted, however. Critics argue that its broad protections let powerful companies ignore real harm to users. On the other hand, some lawmakers incorrectly claim that it only protects “neutral platforms” — a term that’s irrelevant to the law.

Similar legislation exists in the European Union and Australia.

Some textbook incitement from Don Jr today 'be strong for once in your life' and that kind of thing. I saw a few interviews with members of congress after the events today. Many of them on both sides of the house looked genuinely frightened. You can imagine would would have happened if the adrenochrome theorists got in proximity of some focus like Pelosi or some case of mistaken identity. It would not have ended well.

I would also be frightened if I saw a howling mob like that come up the stairs at me. Those idiots were really hyped up.

What a day. What a shambles. All they managed to do was delay things, and Trump's nonsense about "we love you" - who is this "we"? I think they're all a bunch of sore losers. Disgusted by what I saw today - and I note all former living presidents have condemned what happened.

The photos in this article give a pretty good rundown of the day as events unfolded: https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/president-trumps-supporters-to-protest-in-dc-as-congress-certifies-electoral-college-vote/2530914/

Christ, I hope tomorrow goes better. No matter how much these losers love him, eventually they will either move on (I hope) or get tired and move on (I also hope).

That's not going to happen. It's clear from the Trump family speeches today they plan to be USA's rightfully elected President family for a long time. Expect more of this to maintain a lock on the Republican party.
