The Scientific American - The ‘Shared Psychosis’ of Donald Trump and His Loyalists   11 Jan 2021

Forensic psychiatrist Bandy X. Lee explains the outgoing president’s pathological appeal and how to wean people from it.

And today's new words are “narcissistic symbiosis” and “shared psychosis.”

“Shared psychosis”- which is also called “folie à millions” [“madness for millions”] when occurring at the national level or “induced delusions” - refers to the infectiousness of severe symptoms that goes beyond ordinary group psychology. When a highly symptomatic individual is placed in an influential position, the person’s symptoms can spread through the population through emotional bonds, heightening existing pathologies and inducing delusions, paranoia and propensity for violence - even in previously healthy individuals.

The treatment is removal of exposure.

Problem with getting rid of Trump - as I see it - his words/rhetoric/bs have had an impact on so many people, I reckon there would easily be more than one person ready to step in to fill the void, even if he decided to shut his mouth tomorrow, there would be some other nutjob more than ready to replace him and carry on "the fight".

Coach Belichick (New England Patriots) turns down Presidential Medal of Freedom. Good on him. Trump must be feeling a little rejected by now, especially after his beloved golf tournament also told him to get stuffed.

New York Magazine: Capitol Police Suspends Cops for Allegedly Siding With Pro-Trump Mob

Two U.S. Capitol Police officers have been suspended for their conduct during the insurrection last week, according to Representative Tim Ryan, the top Democrat on a House subcommittee investigating how a pro-Trump mob was able to violently push its way into the building.

“One was the selfie officer, and another was an officer who had put a MAGA hat on and started directing some people around,” Ryan told reporters on Monday, according to CNN. Early reports and footage from Wednesday revealed some alarming behavior from those tasked with protecting the Capitol. One insurrectionist told the New York Times that an officer “tried to direct” three members of the mob to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s office.

A video of one officer submitting to a selfie [inside the Capital Building] with a mob member went viral after the attack.

Ryan said that ten to 15 more Capitol Police officers are under investigation for how they behaved during the attack and that the Capitol Police interim chief is taking “aggressive action” to determine if any officers gave insurrectionists any help once they were inside. “The main point is that Capitol police are looking at everybody involved that could have potentially facilitated at a big level or small level in any way,” Ryan said. According to a congressional official who spoke with the Washington Post, eight investigations have been launched into Capitol Police officers...

The New York Times - House Sets Impeachment Vote to Charge Trump With Incitement

breaking

WASHINGTON - House Democrats introduced an article of impeachment against President Trump on Monday for his role in inflaming a mob that attacked the Capitol, scheduling a Wednesday vote to charge the president with “inciting violence against the government of the United States” if Vice President Mike Pence refused to strip him of power first.

Moving with exceptional speed, top House leaders began summoning lawmakers still stunned by the attack back to Washington, promising the protection of National Guard troops and Federal Air Marshal escorts after last week’s security failure.

Their return set up a high-stakes 24-hour standoff between two branches of government.

As the impeachment drive proceeded, federal law enforcement authorities accelerated efforts to fortify the Capitol ahead of President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr.’s inauguration on Jan. 20.

The authorities announced plans to deploy up to 15,000 National Guard troops and set up a multilayered buffer zone with checkpoints around the building by Wednesday, just as lawmakers are to debate and vote on impeaching Mr. Trump.

Federal authorities also said they were bracing for a wave of armed protests in all 50 state capitals and Washington in the days leading up to the inauguration. ...

Aren't you glad that you live in New Zealand?
