I also like the lie that "no front line staff will be impacted" in these types of cuts.

Turns out that when the "back office" people go, the front line staff now need to do the work back office staff did, and they do it less efficiently

Think of it this way, how would MPs like it if they were forced to write heir own speeches, you know get rid of that back office job.

I read a comment on Reddit (take it with a grain of salt) of someone claiming to work in the Beehive.

Apparently, MPs aren't nice people to be around. And some just plain ignore you or treat you like lower life forms.

That's always been the case, and on all sides of politics.

I have very good family friends who worked in the union movement for a long long time. From what I've been told a lot of the people who made it from there into politics range from people you wouldn't enjoy working with to genuine a-holes. There's also a lot of exceptions to that who are genuinely nice and good people.

Note the person posted about National MPs and the PM. But in my comment I explicitly did not mention one party or another.

"I want targets"

"It's not about the targets!"

PM Christopher Luxon visibly frustrated over questions about gang list; says it’s not about ‘frickin targets’ - NZ Herald

But when a reporter questioned Luxon and Mitchell about police removing gang members off the national gang list as part of “sanitising” it – including the removal of deceased people – Mitchell and Luxon appeared to become visibly frustrated.

The reporter suggested it was “convenient” for the Government for gang numbers to reduce and questioned if the Government had asked police to do it.

“Guys, guys, no disrespect,” Luxon said.

“It’s not about the frickin targets, it’s about outcomes.”

And following on from this, a commentary from longtime political reporter Barry Soper, who so doesn't sound like he's in the tank for National 🙄

Sure. For those who aren't aware of the problems parliament has had it's worth reading the original Francis report and the update in 2023.

Like a lot of high profile and highly pressurised work places it's not an easy place to work at all.

The governments "increase" in funding has followed many years of tradition (by all parties) in being below the rate of inflation, ie in real terms a funding cut.

It's a great tactic. It allows you to cry 'How can the opposition say we are cutting funding? We have allocated the largest budget ever for <X>!' and be literally correct.

Heh --

Contrast with the current Prime Minster, he gives no preference and appears to answer virtually everything that’s thrown at him, even if at times he doesn’t address the query.

"Appears" is doing some heavy lifting there.

A friend is currently an assistant to a minister (think press secretary type ) and did the same thing for a labour minister.

All ministers have been very careful not to appear before her in lizard form - so far.

Seymour now going to war on teachers.

"Schools will have to play their part in setting a good example as well," he said.

This meant not taking teacher-only days during term time.

Because nothing makes learning easier than having unhappy teachers.

But that's what the right does. Destroy society to the benefit of a few.

Stunning in its' brilliance. Teachers can still have teacher only days, but they are to occur in the school holidays. I presume weekends are also ok.

In other news, I have been informed by my employer I can still work from home, but only in the hours 5 PM to 9 AM.

Seymour has no clue and just spouting off once again. There already are strict rules around number and timing of teacher only days. They are not called for just because they feel like it. Also if they schedule days during the term breaks they are a different thing and also have strict rules around them in the collective agreements. They can only have a certain number per year, also includes parent teacher evenings etc as well as planning days they already run before the start of the academic year. But hey Seymour wanted an anti-teacher sound bite, because that this government has, sound bites with no basis of reality behind them.

He’s going to have a whinge when schools finish in mid December as a result of this. Once they do their 380 half days they close for the year. Teacher only days don’t count as a day they are open.
