Mr Coleman has bowed out so its Mr English as PM, very good lets hope it stays that way now until well after the election

 

Coleman is a bit like Key, in terms of not being a Career politician etc. So I wonder how long he will remain if he doesn't eventually become PM or Deputy longer term. He doesn't have the charisma of Key though. 

Saw Billy smiling more in 2 seconds of TV this evening than in the last 8 years.

Looks like he is trying the sincerest form of flattery !

I dont think he'll be able to keep it up, it really didnt suit him.

I feel that the others seeking the position was a known waste of time as BE had been given a clear recommendation by John Key. BUT, the others are now setup for the future as known contenders, both for more or more senior positions, involvement, and down the track, a more serious option for PM

And it conveniently raised the profile of BE and the National Party.

I agree , that didn't appear a genuine leadership contest but rather a shallow attempt to portray BE as having full party support as the best guy for the job.

No one appeared to be very disappointed at all.

It's odd that the Deputy PM is being chosen by voting. Surely the PM ought to choose who they want as 2IC? You could end up with a PM forced to work with someone they disliked or did not feel able to trust etc under the system being used.

Well Simon Bridges has quit the deputy race so Monday morning it will be PM Bill English and Deputy PM Paula Bennett. 

Not a bad outcome from my perspective. Probably my top choices. 

For my money this did Simon Bridges no favours, I didn't really find his conduct overly impressive.

HdPA writes what looks like a hatchet job on Little, except IMO it's not really a hatchet job 'cause it's mainly true.

Hickey writes instructions for Bill E in a(nother) less than complimentary article on Key's legacy.  

"The major failure of the Key Government and its much-touted Business Growth Agenda was to increase the export share of the economy.

 

It just hasn't happened.

 

We are employing more baristas and real estate agents and not nearly enough exporters. The end result is hourly wage growth has been stagnant in recent years because ultimately real wages are a product of real output per hour worked."

That article is also spot on (IMO).

I don't think I have agreed with anything else HdPA has done, but this rang so true.

I should by rights be a labour supporter, but I just can't bring myself to support a party that panders so much to those that add so little to society and really doesn't support the ACTUAL working class.

At the end of today, will our new PM also use the expression "at the end of the day" every day?
