Rikkitic: My point is that the weasels who invaded the Capitol keep trying to make excuses for their presence there ('I wasn't part of the mob, but got pushed in by the crowd behind me').

"It wasn't us it was someone else, and even if it was we were just following orders".

The thing that amazes me in two cases at least individuals are asking for a pardon on the basis they were only doing exactly what they thought the President wanted them to do. Private jet real estate lady is one, and possibly the other is organic goat man. Insane, and they could even get one. Insaner.

freitasm: Also, Trump's beautiful wall is a full 80 miles... Out of 1,954 miles total border with Mexico.

Trump advisor Bannon likely to get a pardon for misusing donations from people who thought Mexico was going to pay for the wall and then donated anyway. No word if Bannon is expected to make a large donation to the Trump Presidential Library ahem Fund via a third party as a token of appreciation for great works of literature that will be held within for benefit of humanity.

Actually, it's a very good NZ-brewed American-style IPA.

Only 4 left in the fridge.  🙁

Matched food:  Orange Cheetos

Sadly, now out of stock.

But Impeachment Sour Ale is now available ...

To be fair it's 475 miles, but get this - it's cost over $16 billion all paid for by the US taxpayer.

Oh the wall that Mexico was so going to pay for? Which they outright refused to do...and then America ended up paying for it anyway?
Yes, I remember that wall.

The Washington Post - The Trump administration bailed out prominent anti-vaccine groups during a pandemic

today

Five prominent anti-vaccine organizations that have been known to spread misleading information about the coronavirus received more than $850,000 in loans from the federal Paycheck Protection Program, raising questions about why the government is giving money to groups actively opposing its agenda and seeking to undermine public health during a critical period.

The groups that received the loans are the National Vaccine Information Center, Mercola Health Resources, the Informed Consent Action Network, the Children’s Health Defense and the Tenpenny Integrative Medical Center ...

Many Americans hold skeptical attitudes about vaccination, attitudes that public health experts have said are attributable in part to misinformation.

Nearly 40 percent of Americans say they definitely or probably would not get a coronavirus vaccine, according to a December survey by the Pew Research Center.

Certain groups, including Republicans and Black Americans, are even more skeptical, Pew found.

Even by the insane standards of the Trump administration, this is a bizarre misuse of public funds.

I posted on Twitter on how Trumpers lack the finesse to see the irony of this - while saying Russian interference was a hoax:

Someone replied pointing out this thread (below on Twitter or unroll here for single page read). Basically, completely compromised:

Well, at least 78 or 79 miles in practice.

This could end up an interesting case if someone decided to prosecute is based on the doctrine of command responsibility. Since Trump is the Commander in Chief and military personnel took part in the insurrection, it could be argued that he bears responsibility. Sure, a court will toss it out by saying he wasn't actually giving orders to the military in his role as CiC, but the arguments will be interesting, particularly since Adm. Yamashi/ta was executed by the US despite explicitly ordering his troops not to do what they ended up doing, which is far less than what Trump did.

(@freitasm, you need to make your keyword-scanning a bit smarter, look at what I had to do to Adm. Yama...a's name in order to post it).

Majority of Europeans fear Biden unable to fix 'broken' US

A majority of Europeans believe America’s political system is broken, that China will be the world’s leading power within a decade, and that Joe Biden will be unable to halt his country’s decline on the world stage, according to a report.

While many welcomed Biden’s victory in November’s US election, more Europeans than not feel that after four years of Donald Trump the US cannot be trusted, according to the study by the European Council on Foreign Relations.

“Europeans like Biden, but they don’t think America will come back as a global leader,” said the thinktank’s director, Mark Leonard. “When George W Bush was president, they were divided about how America should use its power. With Biden entering the White House, they are divided about whether America has power at all.”

As someone pointed out in this thread about a thousand messages ago, Trump is neither the symptom nor the cause, he's just the accellerant.

Do you folks think Trump and the GOP will have time to introduce the promised healthcare bill replacing Obamacare tomorrow?

Hasn't got a hope in hell. Nor the 100-odd pardons he's been asked for as well: https://edition.cnn.com/2021/01/18/politics/donald-trump-eleventh-hour-pardons/index.html

Joe will be president by the time we wake up here, right? Jesus I hope it all goes smoothly, the poor guy. He's inheriting one of the most screwed-up, angry and divided countries in the world at the moment.
