kingdragonfly: Screaming Jay Hawkins - I Put a Spell on You

+1

Wiki - Screamin' Jay Hawkins

Hawkins' most successful recording, "I Put a Spell on You" (1956), was selected as one of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll.

The entire band was intoxicated during a recording session where "Hawkins screamed, grunted, and gurgled his way through the tune with utter drunken abandon."

Although Hawkins himself blacked out and was unable to remember the session, he relearned the song from the recorded version.  😉

That creation story exists for a number of other songs (by entirely different performers/groups) as well. Sepultura's cover of Orgasmaton was allegedly done this way, for example.

I can't believe what weasels the Republicans are. Why are they still kissing Trump's ring?

According to the principle of Occam's Razor, the simplest explanation for something is most likely to be the correct one.

In other words, Trump is an a$$hole and the Republicans who kiss up to him are a$$holes. Nothing more complicated than that.

But even if it weren't Trump, I don't see why a former president should be getting intelligence briefings anyway.

Access to intelligence is like a drug, you're being given access to secret knowledge that no-one else has (unless they read a quality international news publication, in which case they have about 99% of it, and that's not snark, it's just analysis of international events). It's used by intelligence agencies to capture oversight committees, but it's also something that people who formerly had access to it don't want to give up.

For Trump ‘intelligence’ + ‘briefing’ = nap time, according to some credible sources from the start of his term.

I think Bush (or his Dad, can't quite remember) still got the intelligence briefings even after leaving office. I have a feeling Clinton didn't - but could be wrong on that one.

It seems to be widely known that Trump never read any briefing notes, anyway. Which seems to indicate that someone else read them to him.

Which begs the question: Who might now be authorized to read Trump's briefings to him?

Melania? Giuliani? Mitch McConnell?

Some randomly selected Proud Boy who can read?

WHITE HOUSE DOGS DIG UP TRUMP’S TAX RETURNS ON SOUTH LAWN

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—In what is being hailed as an amazing act of canine heroism, President Joe Biden’s two German shepherds have dug up Donald Trump’s tax returns on the South Lawn of the White House.

According to sources, shortly after the President let Champ and Major out to play in the snow, they started sniffing one small patch of the lawn and began digging.

Within minutes, the two White House pooches had unearthed twenty years’ worth of Trump’s federal tax returns, which they eagerly deposited on the Oval Office carpet for their master’s perusal.

Although it was unclear exactly how the returns came to be buried on the White House grounds, Palm Beach neighbors later reported hearing Trump screaming abuse at his son, Eric.

Back at the White House, Biden had little to say about Champ and Major’s adventure other than “Next week we'll get 'em hunting for video tapes."

The New York Times - McConnell says ‘loony lies’ spread by Marjorie Taylor Greene are a ‘cancer’ on G.O.P.

today

Senator Mitch McConnell said on Monday that the “loony lies and conspiracy theories” embraced by Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene amounted to a “cancer” on the Republican Party, issuing what in effect was a scathing rebuke to the freshman House Republican from Georgia. ...

House Republican leaders in the past week have been mostly silent as pressure mounted to respond to the cascade of Ms. Greene’s problematic social media posts and videos that have surfaced in the past week ...

At the same time, they are weighing calls within their ranks by loyalists of former President Donald J. Trump to strip Representative Liz Cheney, the No. 3 Republican, of her leadership post as punishment for her vote to impeach Mr. Trump.

In a statement reported by CNN, Mr. McConnell weighed in on behalf of Ms. Cheney, who represents Wyoming’s sole congressional district, calling her “a leader with deep convictions and the courage to act on them.” ...

The twin statements by Mr. McConnell amounted to a rare step by the most powerful Republican in Washington to insert himself into an increasingly ugly intraparty feud. ...

Time: Trump’s impeachment lawyers: One declined to prosecute Bill Cosby, One met With Jeffrey Epstein about representation

...Castor, a Republican who was the elected district attorney of Pennsylvania’s third-most populated county, decided against charging Cosby in a 2004 sexual encounter. He ran for the job again in 2015, and his judgment in the Cosby case was a key issue used against him by the Democrat who defeated him.

...Schoen met with financier Jeffrey Epstein about joining his defense team on sex trafficking charges just days before Epstein killed himself in a New York jail.

In an interview with the Atlanta Jewish Times last year, Schoen said he had also been approached by Trump associate Roger Stone before Stone’s trial about being part of the team and that he was was later retained to handle his appeal. Trump commuted Stone’s sentence and then pardoned him. Schoen maintained in the interview that the case against Stone was “very unfair and politicized.”

The New York Times - Under Pressure to Rebuke Their Own, G.O.P. Leaders Face a Critical Test

The fates of Representatives Marjorie Taylor Greene and Liz Cheney have become a proxy battle for the soul of the party, prompting a clash among top Republicans.

WASHINGTON - Republicans fighting over their party’s future face a turning point on Wednesday as House leaders confront dueling calls to punish two members: one for spreading conspiracy theories and endorsing political violence, and the other for voting to impeach former President Donald J. Trump.
