NBC News: Republican governor says Trump 'should not define' the GOP's future

Former President Donald Trump is expected to speak at this week's Conservative Political Action Conference, but some Republicans are already pushing back on his efforts to steer the party forward.

Arkansas Govenor Asa Hutchinson, a Republican, said it would hurt the GOP if its members "let him define us."

"He has a loud megaphone, but we have to have many different voices and, in my view, we can't let him define us for the future, because that would just further divide our country," he told CNN's "State of the Union." "And it would hurt our Republican Party."

Hutchinson, who spoke at the 2016 Republican National Convention, said he wouldn't back a potential 2024 Trump presidential bid.

Trump "will only define our party if we let him define our party," he said.

The conference, known as CPAC and in Orlando, Florida, this year, is Trump's first public appearance since leaving office. Since then, and with no social media platform, he has mostly maintained a low profile, though he conducted a series of interviews with conservative media outlets following radio host Rush Limbaugh's death.

The address will also come just weeks after the Senate acquitted Trump in his second impeachment trial. Seven Republicans joined the entirety of the Democratic caucus to convict him, but the vote did not reach the needed two-thirds majority to secure a conviction.

Accused of inciting the mob that rioted at the Capitol last month, Trump took aim at Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., after the trial for condemning his conduct — though McConnell voted to acquit the former president.

It's funny, but Mariachi bands usually don't play in Cancun.

The court’s order was a decisive defeat for Mr. Trump, who had gone to extraordinary lengths to keep his tax returns and related documents secret.

The case concerned a subpoena to Mr. Trump’s accountants, Mazars USA, by the office of the Manhattan district attorney, Cyrus R. Vance Jr., a Democrat.

The firm has said it will comply with the final ruling of the courts, meaning that the grand jury should receive the documents in short order. ...

Under grand jury secrecy rules, it would ordinarily be unclear when, if ever, the public would see the information.

But The New York Times has obtained more than two decades of tax return data of Mr. Trump and his companies, and it recently published a series of articles about them.

Mr. Trump, the articles said, has sustained significant losses, owes enormous debts that he is personally obligated to repay, has avoided paying federal income taxes in 11 of the 18 years The Times examined, and paid just $750 in both 2016 and 2017.

But the message will also be that he will endorse primary challenges to anti-Trump heretics - meaning Republicans who hope for political futures must maintain absolute loyalty to him. ...

In short, loyalty to Trump means Republicans must pledge absolute fealty to his evolving mythology.

The 2020 election was a monstrous injustice perpetrated on Trump (it was stolen from him), and whatever efforts he undertook to overturn the results were uniformly peaceful (he had nothing to do with the violent insurrection) and an absolutely legitimate effort to right that wrong. ...

The Supreme Court on Monday turned away Republican challenges to the presidential election results in Pennsylvania, refusing to take up a months-long dispute over extending the deadline in that state for receiving mail-in ballots.

It was part of a purge of sorts.

The high court formally dismissed a range of suits filed by Donald Trump and his allies in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, Georgia and Arizona - all states won by Democrat Joe Biden.

The court’s intent in most of those had been signaled when it refused to expedite consideration of them before Biden was inaugurated as president. ...

After the decisions, Trump said the Supreme Court “really let us down” and has expanded his criticism of the justices since then.

When Donald Trump speaks at the Conservative Political Action Conference next weekend, his message will go a lot deeper than simply reinforcing the message that the GOP is still Trump’s party.

I can't wait to see the text of this speech. If it is scripted it will be full of big complicated words that he did not write but will appeal/appease the intelligentsia and money people of the GOP but not really understood by his grass roots morons.. If he goes off script and wings it that will be his truth and his grass roots morons will lap it up and get euphoric.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Reuters: Letter thanking President Trump was not written by Rush Limbaugh

Social media users have been sharing a letter online attributed to conservative radio personality Rush Limbaugh that thanks former President Donald J. Trump for the past four years.

The letter begins with: “My days on earth are numbered but before I fade away, there is something important I need to say. It may not be important to anyone else; but it’s important to me. Win, lose or fraud...President Trump, I just want to say thank you for the last four years.”

It continues by thanking President Trump for a strong economy, a decrease in the unemployment rate, supporting the nation’s flag, bringing troops home, and more.

...A spokesperson for Premiere Networks, which syndicates The Rush Limbaugh Show, told Reuters via email that “These are not Rush Limbaugh’s words.”

Trump awarded Limbaugh the presidential Medal of Freedom on Feb. 4, 2020.

I was going to suggest a Trump drinking game.

However Trump's vocabulary is so so limited, and predictable, that you'd kill a horse with all the beers or liquor shots drunk.

He was literally still frequently mentioning Hillary Clinton, Obama, and the size of his inauguration, years after the won the 2016 election.

So I designed this BINGO board. It's still going to be a quick game.

It may be hard to complete because of the voice in your head constantly screaming "what a load of crap!"
