It's just the insignia of the 7th SS-Mountain Division "Prinz Eugen" and the rank of a lieutenant on the other side. A SS-Soldier, not an party functioner of the Nazis.

The 'Othala' rune is still in use in the modern army for a rank of a staff sergeant, NATO code OR-7 and is not dedicated to Nazis despite it's a German rune. The rune genuinely stands for 'wealth.'

But everything can be misused for any purpose.

Not just. The National Socialist movement in America replaced the swastika with this rune.

TRUMP’S TAX RETURNS REVEAL HE CLAIMED TED CRUZ AS DEPENDENT

NEW YORK (The Borowitz Report)—In the first major bombshell to emerge from the handover of Donald J. Trump’s tax returns, the Manhattan district attorney has announced that the former President claimed Senator Ted Cruz as a dependent.

Speaking to reporters, Cyrus Vance, Jr., said that listing the Texas senator as a dependent was “highly unorthodox, to say the least.”

“For this deduction to be allowed, we would certainly need some documentation proving that Mr. Trump had adopted Mr. Cruz, or something to that effect,” Vance added.

From his home in Palm Beach, Trump issued a terse rebuttal to Vance’s statement. “Ted Cruz is my baby, and everyone knows it,” Trump said.

The tax imbroglio turned a spotlight on Cruz, who was suddenly under pressure to clarify his legal relationship with the ex-President.

“The great man has been like a father to me, so this could explain it." Cruz told reporters. "If it's true, it will be the greatest honor of my life, but it saddens me to think of all the Father's Day gifts I didn't give him."

At least there's one thing we can rely on in these uncertain times: This thread's gonna run for another four years, at least.

The New York Times - In Statehouses, Stolen-Election Myth Fuels a G.O.P. Drive to Rewrite Rules

today

WASHINGTON - Led by loyalists who embrace former President Donald J. Trump’s baseless claims of a stolen election, Republicans in state legislatures nationwide are mounting extraordinary efforts to change the rules of voting and representation - and enhance their own political clout.

At the top of those efforts is a slew of bills raising new barriers to casting votes, particularly the mail ballots that Democrats flocked to in the 2020 election.

But other measures go well beyond that, including tweaking Electoral College and judicial election rules for the benefit of Republicans; clamping down on citizen-led ballot initiatives; and outlawing private donations that provide resources for administering elections, which were crucial to the smooth November vote.

And ... there are already signs of an aggressive drive to further gerrymander political districts, particularly in states under complete Republican control.

The national Republican Party joined the movement this past week by setting up a "Committee on Election Integrity" to scrutinize state election laws, echoing similar moves by Republicans in a number of state legislatures.

The New York Times - Trump’s Republican Hit List at CPAC Is a Warning Shot to His Party

breaking

ORLANDO, Fla. - After days of insisting they could paper over their intraparty divisions, Republican lawmakers were met with a grim reminder of the challenge ahead on Sunday when former President Donald J. Trump stood before a conservative conference and ominously listed the names of Republicans he is targeting for defeat.

As Democrats pursue a liberal agenda in Washington, the former president’s grievances over the 2020 election continue to animate much of his party, more than a month after he left office and nearly four months since he lost the election.

Many G.O.P. leaders and activists are more focused on litigating false claims about voting fraud in last year’s campaign, assailing the technology companies that deplatformed Mr. Trump and punishing lawmakers who broke with him over his desperate bid to retain power.

In an address on Sunday at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Orlando, his first public appearance since he left the White House, Mr. Trump read a sort of hit list of every congressional Republican who voted to impeach him, all but vowing revenge.

The RINOs that we’re surrounded with will destroy the Republican Party and the American worker and will destroy our country itself,” he said, a reference to the phrase “Republicans In Name Only,” adding that he would be “actively working to elect strong, tough and smart Republican leaders.”

Mr. Trump took special care to single out Representative Liz Cheney, the third-ranking House Republican, and Senator Mitch McConnell, the minority leader. ...

The New York Times - CPAC Takeaways

breaking

Any lingering belief that Donald J. Trump would fade from the political scene like other past presidents evaporated fully on Sunday as he spoke for more than 90 minutes in a grievance-filled and self-promoting address that sought to polish up his presidential legacy, take aim at his enemies and tease his political future.

Here are six takeaways from the first major Republican gathering of the post-Trump era, the 2021 Conservative Political Action Conference in Orlando, Fla.

headings only

  • Trump has (almost) total dominance.

  • ‘Cancel culture’ is the new ‘fake news.’

  • A ‘rigged’ 2020 is now a G.O.P. article of faith.

  • There was little interest in policy - whether Biden’s or the Republican Party’s.

  • Kristi Noem is hailed as ‘a female Trump.’

  • The Republican ‘civil war’ remains very much uncanceled.

Donald is now a domestic problem that the United States and its citizens must resolve through the consistent application of existing laws. He will defend himself with all the tricks of his lawyers and party henchmen but it must now finally become clear to the citizens that even an (ex) president is not above the law. If this does not succeed, the American dream will soon have its real end.

The republican party and its followers still see Donald as their supreme leader.

I'm betting he comes back as the Republican nominee in 2024.

And after that you have his children to contend with ...

Good luck!

At least a few of his children (mostly Ivanka and Tiffany) have said they have no interest in politics or running for office. It's mostly the males who are all gung-ho about it.

Having said that, Trump may have his work cut out for him. A lot can change in 4 years.

https://edition.cnn.com/2021/02/28/politics/trump-cpac-speech-2021/index.html

Trump won the unscientific straw poll of CPAC attendees when they were asked who they favored as 2024 GOP presidential candidates. But the results suggest that there is interest in other potential candidates. Two polls were conducted, one that included Trump's name and one that did not. In the straw poll that included Trump, 55% of attendees said they preferred the former President as their nominee for 2024, another 21% favored Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, while South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem was third with 4%.

In a second poll that excluded Trump, DeSantis was far ahead of the other contenders at the event that took place in his home state. In that poll, 43% of CPAC attendees supported DeSantis, a close ally of Trump. Noem was second with 11%, followed by Donald Trump Jr. at 8%, then former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz with 7% each.

The US has no liberal parties. By global political standards, the Democrats are centre-right and the Republicans are far-right. So it should say "As Democrats pursue a conservative agenda in Washington...".

The Washington Post - Opinion - The Republican Party is making Jim Crow segregationists proud

today

The Republican Party’s biggest problem is that too many people of color are exercising their right to vote.

The party’s solution is a massive push for voter suppression that would make old-time Jim Crow segregationists proud. ...

The GOP may have lost the White House and the Senate, but it remains strong in most state capitols.

So far this year, according to the Brennan Center for Justice, Republicans in 33 states “have introduced, prefiled, or carried over 165 bills to restrict voting access.”

The thrust of virtually all these measures is to make it more difficult for African Americans and other minorities to vote.

These efforts at disenfranchisement are more numerous, and more discriminatory, in several of the swing states President Biden carried narrowly: Arizona, Pennsylvania and Georgia. ...

GOP officials who had the temerity to follow the law and count the November vote honestly, such as Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, have been all but excommunicated by their state Republican Party organizations. ...
