The last Trump beer?

Im-peach-ment 2: This Time it's Insurrection

Well just when we thought we were safe from doing another f%$king Trump beer all this sh1t happens.

As I write this, Trump is gone, impeached in Congress AGAIN! But the senate still couldn't get the 2/3 majority needed. Sigh.

But I do sincerely hope this is ACTUALLY the last time we do a damn Trump beer. At least we don't have to hear about his damn tweets anymore. ...

I love the symbolism of this beverage. It reminds me of how much this ex-president and used beer have in common.

The Washington Post - The 5-Minute Fix - Wray calls Jan. 6 riot 'domestic terrorism'

today

FBI Director Christopher A. Wray seemed to have two goals in his Tuesday hearing with the Senate Judiciary Committee: Defending the bureau’s handling of intelligence about plans to attack the Capitol on Jan. 6, and making his case that the FBI is taking the threat of domestic terrorism seriously.

Wray said the FBI is currently pursuing 2,000 domestic terrorism cases, at one point saying it is a priority at the “same level with ISIS.”

The problem of domestic terrorism has been metastasizing across the country for a long time now,” he said, “and it’s not going away any time soon.” ...

Trump allies on the committee continued to try to advance a narrative that some members of the mob that stormed the Capitol were left-wing provocateurs or antifa, rather than Trump supporters who were responding to his rhetoric.

But Wray was very clear that there was no evidence that antifa, anarchists or other left-wing actors were involved. ...

The madness continues ...

The Washington Post - House scraps plans for Thursday session after security officials warn of possible plot to breach Capitol

breaking

The House scrapped plans for a Thursday session after security officials warned of a possible plot by an unnamed militant group to breach the Capitol.

The decision to move up votes on legislation to Wednesday night came after officials warned of credible threats of violence circulated by right-wing extremists that March 4 is the “true Inauguration Day” when former president Donald Trump will be sworn in for a second term. ...

And what are those dropkicks going to do when it simply doesn't happen the way "Q" told them it was going to? Just push it out to another date that works for them?
They really can't do that forever, can they?

Edit: Also - another loser (in this case, conspiracy, uh, guy Alex Jones) wishes he'd never met Trump and now regrets it:

I would like to introduce a new term to correct a current deficiency in such things. We have GOAT but there is no anti-GOAT. I suggest the new designation BLOAT (Biggest Loser Of All Time).

More Dirty Deeds in The Deep South ...

The Guardian - Editorial - This is how Georgia Republicans are attacking democracy

today

After record turnout in the 2020 election, the state legislature is considering sweeping voting restrictions.

On Monday, the Georgia house of representatives approved a bill, HB531, that would implement sweeping changes to the state’s voting system.

Among other measures, the bill would:

  •     Require voters to provide identification information both with their absentee ballot application and the ballot itself.

  •     Limit election officials to offer just two days of early voting on the weekends, one of which is required to be a Saturday.

  •     Restrict early voting from 9am. to 5pm, with an option for election officials to extend hours from 7am to 7pm.

  •     Give voters less time to request an absentee ballot.

  •     Shorten the period for a runoff election from nine weeks to four.

The efforts in Georgia matter significantly for a few reasons:

  •     They come after an election in which there was record turnout in the state, including surges among Black and other minority voters, which helped power Democrats to stunning upsets.

  •     Georgia officials, including top Republicans, loudly dismissed allegations of fraud and there were statewide recounts and audits to back them up.

  •     They evoke Georgia’s well-documented and ugly history of passing laws designed to make it harder for Black people to vote.

The Washington Post - Opinion - How the Trump scam could deliver another big GOP victory

today

The Trump scam is alive and well in the GOP.

And it’s perfectly plausible that it might keep on delivering for Republicans - perhaps spectacularly so. ...

How the scam might work

First, the GOP base might not actually punish Republican lawmakers for voting against the rescue package, because Republican voters will benefit from it anyway. ...

Voter suppression is the key

New voter-suppression efforts are unfolding in numerous states.

Republicans are openly boasting that retaking the House in 2022 - halting Biden’s agenda and positioning the GOP to win the White House in 2024 - will be aided by extreme gerrymanders. ...

In this scenario, the continued devotion to the 'stolen election' myth, in addition to keeping GOP voters in a state of perpetual grievance, also underpins the voter-suppression and anti-majoritarian tactics that will make this more likely.

The Trump scam is many-headed: It combines grievance-mongering with those escalated tactics, justified by still more grievance ...

Hey, this exact tactic worked in 1933, why not reuse what works? They're even using the same terms ("the movement" = "Die Bewegung", "stolen election myth" = "Dolchstosslegende", voter supression via Jim Crow laws = voter suppression via the SA), and they've got the symbolism too (the stage at TPAC).
