You forgot "pathetic" and "sore losers". The people voted, and thusly the people have spoken. They need to move on and get over it.

August is almost halfway through, with 0 signs of Trump being "reinstated" as was his dream not so long ago.

The New York Times - Accountants must give the House some of Trump’s financial data, a judge rules

breaking

WASHINGTON - Former President Donald J. Trump’s accounting firm must give Congress his tax and other financial records from his time in the White House, and for a longer period about his lease of a government-owned building for a hotel, a judge ruled on Wednesday in a long-running legal fight over a House subpoena.

But in his 53-page opinion, the judge, Amit P. Mehta of the Federal District Court for the District of Columbia, also ruled that the House Committee on Oversight and Reform was not entitled to other financial records covering years before Mr. Trump took office.

The panel had issued a broad request for records dating back to 2011. ...

Either side, or both sides, may appeal Judge Mehta’s ruling, so the case may not be resolved anytime soon. ...

The Washington Post - Giuliani told agents it was okay to ‘throw a fake’ during political campaign

today

Rudolph W. Giuliani’s promise of a “big surprise” to help Donald Trump’s election in October 2016 led to Democratic accusations the FBI was feeding him secrets about an investigation of Hillary Clinton.

But a newly obtained transcript shows the former New York mayor told federal agents it was okay to “throw a fake” when campaigning, to which his then-law partner added, “there’s no obligation to tell the truth.”

Giuliani’s comments came in a 2018 interview with agents for the Justice Department inspector general, conducted in a room at Trump’s hotel in downtown Washington.

The Project on Government Oversight, a government watchdog group, sued for a copy of the interview transcript and provided it to The Washington Post on Wednesday. ...

Vice:'Expert Mathematician' on Election Fraud Actually a Swing Set Installer, Lawsuit Claims

A man posing as a math expert with evidence Trump won the election is actually a convicted drug dealer with no college degree who installs swing sets, according to a lawsuit.

On January 27, the pro-Trump channel OAN broadcast a segment interviewing an "expert mathematician" named Ed Solomon who claimed to have found evidence within precinct-level reporting that the election was rigged by an algorithm. The basis of Solomon's claim is that he found several precincts throughout the country reporting exactly the same results at various times throughout the vote tabulation process.

Asked by host Christina Bobb what the likelihood of what Solomon claimed to have found being a coincidence is, Solomon replied, "You can use the binomial probability formula, and the chance of that event happening is one over ten to an exponent so large there's not enough stars in the universe—there's not enough atoms in the universe to explain the number. It can't happen naturally."

If this sounds suspiciously vague for a mathematician, that's because Solomon is not actually a mathematician, according to a lawsuit voting machine company Dominion filed against OAN for knowingly reporting defamatory claims against the company in the wake of Trump's loss. In fact, according to the lawsuit, Solomon is a convicted drug dealer and "was working as an 'installer' at a swing set construction company in Long Island" at the time of the interview.

The New York Times - Scottish Group Seeks Source of Trump’s Funds for Golf Courses

today

The Trump Company invested hundreds of millions in the properties during a time when the former president was reporting heavy losses on his income tax returns.

LONDON - A Scottish judge on Wednesday opened a path to a possible investigation into the purchase of Donald Trump’s two golf courses in Scotland, in a ruling that could force the former president to explain how he funded the deals. ...

Though it remains far from clear that such an investigation will ever arise in this case, Wednesday’s court decision is nonetheless a setback for Mr. Trump, whose financial and tax dealings are under investigation in the United States. ...

I was reading a report from the Brookings Institution on income inequality and came across the following graph, usually referred to as the Elephant Graph from its original appearance. It shows income growth over the period 1980 to 2016 on the Y axis and income group on the X axis. Note the exaggeration of the 99th percentile, required to show the growth in wealth of the super-rich:

On the left are developing nations, Asia, Africa, etc. On the right are the super-rich, mostly in the US. And that huge dip in the middle, whose income has grown at a bit over 1% per year - that's middle America (and Europe).

You can see why Trump has such a huge appeal to this lot. He's on the far right - in both senses - and they're down in the dip looking up at him and wondering why they aren't there too, or looking over to the other side and thinking that that growth should have belonged to them and not to someone in Asia.

In terms of why Europeans are far less likely to be Trumpists than Americans, I'm not sure, two hypotheses are that they're in social democracies / socialist countries and so are reasonably well looked after compared to Americans, and/or that they're more likely to be satisfied with their lot and the way things are run than Americans.

In terms of the graph itself, there are lots of different versions whose exact form varies depending on how you measure it, purchasing power, wages, etc, but the general curve is the same.

The Washington Post - The spectacular implosion of Mike Lindell

today

On Tuesday, my colleague Philip Bump wrote about the three-day symposium being put on by stolen-election fantasist and Trump ally Mike Lindell, with the apt headline, “The con is winding down.”

It might now be more apt to say the con has imploded spectacularly.

Lindell has pushed many false, baseless and crazy theories about voter fraud, but the symposium was billed as focusing on one in particular: “irrefutable” proof that hackers backed by China stole the election for Joe Biden.

Lindell had the data, and he was going to show it to you over 72 hours. What’s more, his website promised to give $5 million to anybody who could “prove that Mike’s cyber data … is not valid.”

Well, someone has stepped forward to debunk the data - or at least the claims Lindell is making about it. And it’s none other than the cyberexpert Lindell himself hired.

Josh Merritt, who was hired by Lindell for his “red team,” told the Washington Times on Wednesday at the symposium that, effectively, Lindell has sold his adherents a bill of goods.

Lindell claimed that intercepted network data obtained by other hackers, also known as “packet captures,” could be unencrypted to reveal evidence of vote-switching by the Chinese-backed hackers.

But Merritt has now said that’s just not true.

So our team said we’re not going to say that this is legitimate if we don’t have confidence in the information,” Merritt said. And it apparently turns out it was not legitimate. ...

We were handed a turd,” he said. “And I had to take that turd and turn it into a diamond.” ...

The last lines of the Washington Post article:

Adding insult to injury, those two experts would seem to be in line for a hefty payday - $5 million! - for revealing that Lindell’s data isn’t valid.

But Merritt said the offer is no longer on the table.

Update: Lindell’s lawyer has now said that the $5 million offer, which still appears on Lindell’s website, has not been rescinded.

Trump Not Back In Office August 13 Despite QAnon, MyPillow Predictions

MSNBC

“As with all good cults, expect the goalposts to shift fast. Expect one missed deadline from a false conspiracy to just bleed into another. Because a significant chunk of the American public has collectively lost its mind,” says Mehdi Hasan.
