FLORIDA PRE-SCHOOLERS OFFER TO EXPLAIN MASK ISSUE TO DESANTIS
TALLAHASSEE (The Borowitz Report)—A group of Florida’s kindergarten attendees has offered to explain the science underpinning the use of masks to the state’s governor, Ron DeSantis.
Calling DeSantis’s objection to mask mandates “clearly an example of ignorance on his part,” one of the kindergarteners, Jayson Dorrinson, said that his fellow five-year-olds were willing to talk to the Governor at his earliest convenience.
“The benefit of wearing masks is so obvious, it’s clear that no one has properly explained this issue to Mr. DeSantis,” the kindergartener said. “We’re very happy to do that.”
Dorrinson said that he was “not concerned” that being told the facts about masks might enrage DeSantis, who has been on a short fuse in recent weeks.
“We hope he doesn’t get mad,” the five-year-old said. “But, if he does, we’ll just put him in the naughty chair.”

The Washington Post - In latest bow to Trump, GOP lawmakers in Pennsylvania plan to launch hearings on 2020 vote
today
Republican lawmakers in Pennsylvania plan to formally launch hearings as part of an investigation into the 2020 vote in the state, the latest GOP-backed effort to revisit an election that former president Donald Trump has falsely claimed was fraudulent.
State Senate President Pro Tempore Jake Corman (R) said this week that lawmakers are pursuing a “full forensic investigation” of the election that will aim to examine ballots and voter rolls. ...
The Pennsylvania investigation is the latest sign of how Republican leaders in key battleground states are bowing to ongoing pressure from Trump and his base to investigate baseless allegations that voting irregularities tainted the November election. ...

The NY Times - The Trump Clown Car Has a Smashup in Arizona
today
Monday was supposed to be a banner day for former President Donald Trump and the MAGAverse.
After multiple delays, legal challenges and public controversies, the results of the third - and hopefully final - review of the presidential voting in Maricopa County, Ariz., was scheduled for delivery to its Republican sponsors in the State Senate.
At long last, the proof of mass election fraud would be laid out for all to see! Mr. Trump would be vindicated! Maybe even reinstated!
At least, that’s what MAGA die-hards hunkered down in their bunkers of disinformation were hoping. ...
Alas, it was not to be.
On Monday, the Republican president of the State Senate, Karen Fann, announced that the Cyber Ninjas, the Florida-based firm overseeing the recount, had not yet completed a full draft report after all.
It seems the firm’s chief executive and two other members of the “audit team” had come down with Covid-19. ...
Karma. 😑
EDIT
A footnote from the same article:
Serious, well-run audits play an important role in safeguarding the integrity of elections.
What Arizona’s Republican senators arranged, by contrast, is what you’d get if you crossed a clown pageant with a QAnon convention and made the whole thing open bar.
The whole mess would be entertaining if it weren’t so destructive.

The Washington Post - Federal judge in Michigan orders pro-Trump lawyers disciplined over lawsuit seeking to overturn 2020 election
breaking
A federal judge in Michigan has ordered that Sidney Powell, L. Lin Wood and seven other attorneys who filed a lawsuit seeking to overturn the state’s 2020 presidential election be disciplined, calling the suit “a historic and profound abuse of the judicial process.”
In a scathing 110-page opinion, Federal District Judge Linda V. Parker wrote that the lawyers had made assertions in court that were not backed by evidence and had failed to do the due diligence required by legal rules before alleging mass fraud in the Michigan vote.
“This case was never about fraud,” she wrote. “It was about undermining the People’s faith in our democracy and debasing the judicial process to do so.”
She ordered the lawyers to pay the attorney’s fees for their opponents in the case - the city of Detroit and the state of Michigan.
She also referred the group to ... disciplinary committees in the states where each attorney is licensed, which could initiate proceedings that could result in the lawyers being disbarred.

Powell, Lin Wood (not the place, the "lawyer") and Rudy should all go to court - at minimum - for their part in all this. There are plenty of others too, far too many to name.
Russia made many mistakes in 2016, first and foremost being the dog had no idea what to do when it caught up with the car. Winning the Brexit referendum did not cause the EU to collapse, it had the exact opposite effect. The EU is now well on the way to becoming a United States of Europe and it is a matter of when, not if the UK is re-integrated. Trump was a supreme humiliation for the US but means that the entire US establishment from Max Boot to AOC is lined up behind the Democratic party for the next 20-30 years.
The only long term gain for Putin from 2016 is that it is likely that the war faction is going to be out of power in the US and UK for a generation or more. And that is not a gain when the real lesson of 2016 is understood: The only true power in the 21st century is soft power.
I like to point out to advocates of 'cyber-warfare' that when the US lives in the biggest, baddest glass house on the planet, it is a remarkably bad idea to start throwing stones. In 2016, Putin showed that Russia, a feeble and decrepit economy with a second rate military is still able to mount a soft power attack.
But when it comes to soft power, the US has absolutely unmatched powers. It is a hyper-power. The Soviet Union was brought down by rock and roll, blue jeans and western TV.
The Taliban just beat the US military after a 20 year war. We were never going to win by stopping jihadis discussing the best way to oil an AK47.
Now we are on to the soft power conflict: It isn't the US military the Taliban leaders fear, it is Starlink broadcasting TikTok videos teaching their teenage daughters about makeup.
neb: Not sure if this belongs more in the Biden thread or this one, but here goes... interesting comment from someone knowledgeable about this stuff on a security mailing list during a discussion on infowar, excerpted with permission:
If all of that is accurate, it's encouraging.

geekIT:If all of that is accurate, it's encouraging.
Well, it's just his thoughts, not political policy analysis from The Economist so don't treat it as gospel. I just liked his insights, e.g. "the dog had no idea what to do when it caught up with the car", "when the US lives in the biggest, baddest glass house on the planet, it is a remarkably bad idea to start throwing stones", and the comment about the biggest threat to the Taliban not being military - there's nothing you can really threaten those guys with - but the influence of open culture.
The Soviet Union was brought down by rock and roll, blue jeans and western TV.
That's not what happened.
