Vaccine refusers aren’t just rejecting lifesaving vaccines, they’re also turning to life-threatening alternatives.
We’re seeing a surge in sales of - and poisoning by - ivermectin, which is usually used to deworm livestock but has recently been touted on social media and Fox News as a Covid cure. ...
Americans willing to believe that Barack Obama was born in Kenya and that Italian satellites were used to switch votes to Joe Biden are also the kind of people willing to believe that medical elites are lying to them and that they can solve their health problems by ignoring professional advice and buying patent medicines instead. ...
Surely everyone on the right noticed that even Donald Trump got booed recently when he told attendees at a rally that they should get vaccinated.
He probably won’t say that again, and would-be future Trumps definitely won’t. ...

The Washington Post - The 5-Minute Fix: Trump probably can't dodge the Jan. 6 investigation
today
Former president Donald Trump is trying to do something that is without modern precedent: use executive privilege - even though he’s no longer president - to stop Congress from investigating his role in fomenting the violence of Jan. 6.
A special, bipartisan committee looking into the insurrection wants to know everything he did on that day, and they’re asking the government for federal records about his White House conversations, telecommunication companies for call logs and social media companies for tweets and other posts.
Trump says he’ll fight it all by claiming his communications are protected as president.
Legal experts say he can claim executive privilege and tie up the investigation in courts, but he probably would lose. ...
[BUT !!!]
If Trump can drag this out until January 2023, Republicans may have control of the House of Representatives and may drop this Jan. 6 investigation altogether.

NEW TEXAS LAW REQUIRES ELECTORS TO RECEIVE COUNSELING BEFORE VOTING.
AUSTIN (The Borowitz Report)—Governor Greg Abbott has signed into law a bill requiring all Texans to submit to counseling before being allowed to vote.
The law mandates a counseling session and a twenty-four-hour waiting period before a voter is permitted to cast a ballot, Abbott explained.
“Many people think that voting is something they must do, but they're mistaken,” he said. “There are many alternatives, including not voting.”
“Sometimes, a person is upset with their situation and thinks that voting is the only answer,” the Governor said. “A counselor can sit with them, pray with them, and help them make the right choice.”
Answering critics who claim that the twenty-four-hour waiting period is designed to keep voters from casting their ballots in a timely fashion, Abbott said, “All we’re trying to do is make sure that voting is the right decision for them. Every day, I hear from people who voted for me who say that they’ll regret that decision for the rest of their lives.”

kingdragonfly: “Ambassador Craft’s apparent eagerness to direct business to a Trump-owned hotel sends a signal that U.S. foreign policy is pay-to-play,” said Jack Patterson, a spokesperson for American Oversight, in a statement. “An American diplomat using their position to line the president’s pockets is an example of the casual corruption that permeated the Trump administration and undermines confidence in the United States.”
That link seems pretty tenuous:
In November 2018, Craft received guidance about an upcoming conference in Washington, D.C. for ambassadors and other heads of overseas missions. The message listed five hotels that meeting organizers had negotiated rates with, although attendees were advised they could made alternative arrangements.
Craft forwarded the email to a staffer, asking, “Is this a meeting I should attend? If so, I would prefer the TRUMP HOTEL.” The assistant confirmed that Craft would want to be present at the mid-January 2019 confab and added, “I’ll make reservations at the Trump Intl Hotel.”
"Here is a list of approved hotels you can stay at" -> "I'll take this one" doesn't seem like a huge transgression. In particular all she has to say is "I like the restaurant there" or "it's closest to Reagan National" and she's justified her choice.
The NY Times - Capitol Rioter Known as QAnon Shaman Pleads Guilty
today
Jacob Chansley, who stormed onto the Senate floor in face paint and a horned hat, accepted a deal under which federal prosecutors will recommend a sentence of 41 to 51 months in prison.
The former actor and Navy sailor widely known as the QAnon Shaman, who stormed the Capitol in January in stars-and-stripes face paint and a horned fur hat, pleaded guilty on Friday to a single felony count of obstructing an official proceeding before Congress.
Mr. Chansley, 34, became one of the best-known figures in the Capitol breach after images of him standing shirtless on the Senate floor brandishing a spear made from a flagpole shot around the globe, vividly representing the role played in the riot by adherents of QAnon, the cultlike conspiracy theory embraced by some backers of former President Donald J. Trump.
