Pointing out that Trevor Mallard's own slate is not spotless (the Tau Henare punch, and arguably the sexual assault allegation - but nothing else springs to mind?) does not in any way absolve Nick Smith or whoever the other (unknown to me) MP currently rumoured to have a similar issue. It also doesn't change the fact that Mallard does seem to be doing something about these issues where others have not.

It's not the gotcha you think it is, and in any case people are not required to be perfect themselves in order to be able to point out problems (but it would make the high ground easier to take).

So far I've seen no details of the Nick Smith thing in the media. Only 'verbal altercation'. Maybe the leaker whoever that might be has decided not to release it after Smith's resignation.

I always thought Smith was one of National's relatively sensible people for the most part. Finding out he was allegedly known for this kind of thing in addition to this incident is a bit of a surprise.

Flintoft alleges that Bezzant then taunted her about the matter not progressing to the courts.

That's some spectacular level of career death-wish / poor judgement.

Has a whiff of "don't you know who I am" arrogance to it. Politics (not just National party) really does seem to attract some of the worst people. More attention to weeding the garden before the inevitable happens seems to be required.

Sad - but true. The worst part about it (IMO) is that many of them have both hands out for public funding available for start-ups, governance for distribution of those funds often by people who have a BCom from 1987, send emails with a signature "Sent from my iPhone" as their STEM qualification, but of course with friends or family in "high places".
