Israel Supreme Court strikes down judicial reforms - BBC News

Pretty rich when a Likud party spokesman says the Supreme Court is overriding the will of the people when firstly they are only in power because the guy who won the election wouldn't form a coalition with the nut job parties and secondly there were the largest demonstrations against these reforms in modern Israeli history.

Who will make it to prison first? Trump or Netanyahu?

Killing of senior Hamas leader in Lebanon brings fears of wider war | Stuff.co.nz

In a statement, Hezbollah said it considered the assassination “a serious assault on Lebanon, its people, its security, sovereignty and resistance”.

Stop harbouring terrorists. Oh, right. The Hezbollah is a designated terrorist group too by many nations.

New Zealand only classifies part of the Hezbollah as terrorist: Lists associated with Resolution 1373 | New Zealand Police

Israel outlines its plans for Gaza after war - BBC News

Sounds like West Bank 2. And look how well that's working for the Palestinians with 500,000 illegal Israeli settlers in their territory. Maybe that's the future Netanyahu and Co really intend for Gaza.

Presumably by saying it will be run by Palestinians they mean the PLA. My understanding is most Gazans and most Palestinians in the West Bank can't stand them. That's why they haven't had any elections for years.

Never going to happen. Israel has created a legacy of hatred that will endure through the generations.

Interesting analysis from the BBC.

Israel-Gaza war: The huge challenges facing Israel's 'day after' plan - BBC News

It almost sounds like a plan that has been put forward in the hope of failing so that Israel occupies Gaza indefinitely, no rebuilding occurs and the Palestinians simply die from neglect over the coming years.

Isn't it just the military wing, same as they do for Hamas?

I'd be wary of suggesting that the attack was OK just because Hezbollah are there - this is the IDF, if they're cracking knuckles in Lebanon's direction, an attack like on Gaza isn't impossible. Unhinged tweets (or whatever they're called now) from Israeli leaders have suggested this is just the beginning.

Gwynne Dyer, a Brit political columnist who has a weekly column in my local Stuff paper, suggests that Netanyahu needs to keep the war going as long as possible because as soon as it's over his government is toast and he's back in court defending fraud charges or whatever they were.

So a war in Lebanon would be just the ticket as far as he is concerned.

UN special representative on sexual violence in conflict formally invited to visit Israel:

Times of Israel: During her trip to Israel and the West Bank, Pramila Patten, the UN special representative on sexual violence in conflict, will “gather information on sexual violence reportedly committed in the context of the attacks of October 7 and its aftermath,” the UN secretary-general’s spokesman Stephane Dujarric said.

The Geneva Convention defines sexual violence in conflict as a war crime. Both Israel as a nation state and Palestine are signatories to the Geneva Convention.

Tough choices for Israel in US's Middle East vision - BBC News

Biden and Blinken are living in a dream world if they think the Israelis are listening to anything they are pushing for or proposing.

And the article doesn't mention another option for the Israelis - don't accept any solution and let the Palestinians rot in squalid refugee camps in a tiny corner of the Gaza Strip.

If Trump wins next November all these discussions are moot. He will give the Israelis the green light to do anything they like.

If Trump wins next November Gaza will be the least of our worries. If he wins again, he won't be concerned with annoying things like "laws" anymore, because a second win will be proof enough for everyone that they no longer matter. The largest nuclear armed military in the world will officially be under the command of a fascist dictator.

EDIT: A fascist dictator too stupid not to not to go immediately off the deep end, that is. We already have two nuclear armed dictators, but at least they're smart enough not to go starting world wars.

Trump will check first with Putin, and Xi on how the world will be carved up.
Who is paying protection money to whom.

He tried last time to shake down South Korea, and his moves against NATO.
This time he wants to break it.

So depends on how Putin and Xi want to carve up Arabia and Africa...

Looks like Turkey might get a good deal as Erdoğan is his favorite dictator. :-)
(Correction the favorite was Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi )
But Trump is known for being fickle, playing the field, he has heaped praise on Erdogan.

If Trump wins in November I do not believe he will go to war. Destroying market places is not good for business. I also feel that he sees no enemies outside the USA, he deems his enimies as domestic.
